I had no idea U. Tech USED to be Dixie State U. I always figured that was in the southeast. WRONG again, Rock. Derp.

Beavers up 19 at the three minute mark, shooting 50% from the floor

Beavs up 76-54, under three minutes. Figured I'd chime in before the naysayers start picking a part a solid victory. Damarco Minor and Fallah look good.
They had been D1 for a while as Dixie State. They completed the full four-year transition process in the offseason.

Turned it on and we were down 48-47. It’s now 76-54, a 28-7 run. Good time to flip it on.

Well both teams need some FT work!
If I'm remembering correctly, Tech cut the run/lead to 54-52?
22-3 to this point, 1:30 left.
*Logue is built!

Yes, it was 54-52 with 9:18 left and OSU outscored them 26-5 to end the game. U Tech didn't make a FG the last 9:18(0-10) I'll give OSU a pass on the FT, its game 1 plus OSU has generally been like a 74/75% FT shooting team under Tinkle.

Fallah needs work on FTs, bending knees would help, he doesn’t use his legs at all. Overall he’s a quality get….skill set reminds me of David Lucas.

Nice win. We look more athletic than last year, especially at the guard and center positions. Some of those athletes have some basketball skills, too. Center especially is a major upgrade over last year.
Still need work at forward. Rataj made some good plays tonight and had an overall good game, but besides that, the forward spot might be a little MIA this year, unless Lelevicius comes through (and he might).
Tinkle needs to be able to put it all together. He's got a lot of new, moving parts. While we looked more athletic and more skilled, our offense still looked like...well, Tinkle's offense. Still, a lot of the guys looked like team players with a willingness to pass to get the better shot. I think we'll have more assists this year. And it looked at times like our guys were buying into Coach's defense-first philosophy
And that gives me some hope.

I believe this is their 1st game at the division 1 level too, correct me if I'm wrong. Utah Tech started playing Division 1 basketball back in 2020 as Dixie State. Dixie State became Utah Tech in 2022. Brigham Young called St. George, "Utah's Dixie," presumably because it is in Southern Utah. St. George is further South than Southern Utah University.

I wasn't sure about buying ESPN+, to get myself all worked up about Beavs basketball after the futility of the last several years. But now I'm thinking what the heck, it may be an enjoyable team to watch.

And it looked at times like our guys were buying into Coach's defense-first philosophy And that gives me some hope. One thing that jumped out at me was there were multiple times guys made an extra pass where I don't think the last few squads would have. One instance it led to a corner 3 from Lake, another it led to a guard (I think Minor) getting stuffed down low. So some good, one bad, I didn't see a whole lot of the 2nd half tonight so not sure if there were other instances. Hopefully the offense looks a little better after 5-10 games, none of these guys have played together really other than Lake and Rataj. Weber State should be a little better than Utah Tech, otherwise not sure we'll get a much better chance to evaluate where we're at until the Oregon game.
