Gee... I posted my thoughts, never mentioned how far this team could go IF. Stated the facts of that particular game as I saw them.

Tony the expert chose to ignore that and attach some weak personal attack. Typical of older PO users... they typically do not read the actual posts for what they say, interpret them in terms of how they fit their opinions, then spout some nonsense unrelated to the thread... usually a personal attack and the thread morfs into immature babble.

So, excuse me if I'd rather not have that on this forum.

I'm excited as well, but also realize the team has a long way to go - and definitely no sure thing. This is a big transition, not just with integrating the frosh, but with changing the style from relying on stingy defense and a very patient offense (that ultimately failed last season when the opponents defense also became patient and forced us to make plays rather than exploit defensive breakdowns) to one that is much more opportunistic and able to force the issue. What makes this team exciting is that we finally have a stable of players that can score at-will.

They still need to get heathy and learn to play together at both ends of the court, and that's certainly no given ... but I agree that we finally have the foundation of a group of guys that is not overmatched by anybody in the league, and should win their share. Given what Tinkle was able to coach the team into last year, there's good reason to be excited that this team could accomplish something special.

names don't mean much in Basketball.

This ain't football. find a decent 7 guys and you can compete. far easier to field competitive basketball at ANY level of college than it is for football.

We definitely have some kinks to work out. FT shooting is abysmal (it was early last year and greatly improved through the season). We relied a lot on athletics and fast break to score and our defense is not where it needs to be in comparison to last year. We we start getting teams with a pulse (yeah, I know I just gave you crap about calling teams weak) those fast breaks aren't gonna be there, we are going to need to move the ball and run an offense better.

In regards to FT shooting. if we hit 80% in this game (not unreasonable expectation in my opinion) we score 88-90 or so. 90-52 is a dominating win we expect and maybe the "dancing" conversation isn't so frowned upon. We went to the line 30 times. I suspect this team is going to get to the line a lot. We drive the basket, we are fast... we are going to draw fouls. Just gotta make them.

this team is night and day deeper and more athletic that last year. Thompson is a shooter. Tres is legit and Eubanks? holy hell what a grab. thank god Reynolds sucked and Tinkle has an eye for talent. Not every day you get 6-10" that can move like that and shoot with touch like he has. I fully expect Eubanks to have his share of struggles against tougher teams, but for a freshman big he is certainly impressive.

Nobody played more than 30 minutes... last year against rice, 3 players had over 30 minutes: 32, 35 and 36 minutes. On the season, we had 4 players average 30 minutes or higher. and then 6 players average less than 8. We spent the season with essentially 6 every day real players.


GPII had 30, in this game, then after that we had 6 players have between 22 and 27 minutes. that is a healthy rotation of 7 guys. two more, Dahlen and Rakocevic ,got a few minutes in as well. Reid is only couple weeks away as well and Gomis is back for Pac-12 play I believe.

The rotation this year, having the bench this year is going to be huge down the stretch. it is what puttered us out last year. We just wore down. Tink knows it and even was openly admitting it. they were hanging on and fighting, but we were thin.

But like I said, we have some work to do. No way on earth the much less athletic NWCC should of tied us in total rebounds and beat us out on defensive rebounds. 46.7% from the line ain't gonna cut it.

But 6 blocks to nothing is nice, so is 11 steals to 1. We have a team of ballers and we have a REAL coach that can elevate these players. I am pretty excited, and lord know OSU could use a solid basketball season after this football season!
