All I know is that OSU won 83-63 Montana State has a separate Billings campus and they have a MBB team? It is a completely separate school.

All I know is that OSU won 83-63 Montana State has a separate Billings campus and they have a MBB team? Only since 1933. MSU-Billings used to be Eastern Montana University. Which is a much better name than NSU-Billings.

Problem with a name like that is one’s degree may say Montana State University but it will always have an asterisk by it.

I don't think it's any different than Cal State Fullerton, or San Bernadino, or San Diego. Experts out there, am I wrong?

They’re all legit colleges.

Problem with a name like that is one’s degree may say Montana State University but it will always have an asterisk by it. No it won’t. There’s also a Montana State-Northern in Havre, MT. They’re all legit colleges. I went to what is now Montana Tech (or more formally, Montana Technological University) for my undergraduate degrees (Math/CS). At the time I attended, it was called Montana College of Mineral Science and Technology, or informally, Montana Tech, but, yes, a legit college (the year I graduated US News & World Report ranked it the #1 small school in the country, for what that is worth). We were members of the NAIA Frontier Conference, playing other small regional schools like Northern Montana College, Western Montana College, Carroll College (I almost transferred to Carroll when I heard it was over 60% women, which sounded really good to a teen at a hardcore engineering school, but as a med school feeder school, I would have immediately flunked out and at least had the self-awareness to realize that, but I digress). Eastern Montana College had already left the Frontier Conference for NCAA D-II by the time I started at Tech, and a few years after I left, circa 1995, the regional colleges in Montana were reorganized administratively to be affiliated with either Montana State University or University of Montana. They were also renamed to reflect this administrative reshuffling, and the "College" moniker replaced with "University"...... Montana Tech formally became "Montana Tech of the University of Montana" or some silly thing like that, and Eastern became Montana State University - Billings. I know this was not well received among the former regional colleges (my father was a professor in Montana) and they have been slowly clawing back their independence it seems. Weirdest MBB game ever for me came a couple of years back in the preseason when Montana Tech played a preseason game against OSU at Gill. Something I never thought I would see.......nor did I think I would see a really well coached NAIA Division II team compete well with the Beavers, but with WT games have always been a bit of a mixed bag, and it was preseason (cue all sorts of other excuses). Anyway, to the point made many digressions ago, I can fully attest to the fact that those Montana schools are legit institutions. Go Beavers!

So no one went to the game, huh? Oh well. Obviously, I wasn’t there, but a few thoughts and questions after checking out the box score.
— I’m assuming Nate Kingz was formally known as Nate Meithof. Correct? — Beavers won the battle of the paint by 20 points. That is something I’d expect going up against a D-2 school. They weren’t without height, but as a rule of thumb I’d expect their bigs to be less skilled. That means outside of the paint MSU-Billings played us to a standstill. Hitting 6 more 3s than Beavs certainly played into that, but they also shot considerably better from distance (42% to 28%). — Speaking of bigs, anyone know why Matthew Marsh didn’t play? — Isaiah Sy came in with rep as 3-point shooter (47.1% from 3 at JC last year. Seems legit as he went 4 for 6. Unfortunately, that means rest of the team shot 16% from beyond the arc. — Rataj was leading scorer and rebounder — but also led team in TOs with 5. Tied for lead in steals (3) and blocks (1). — Newcomer Minor was known as a stat sheet stuffer at SIU-E and did so in his first action as. Beaver — 11 pts, 6 rebs, 2 assists, 3 steals. — Gavin Marrs only played 2:25. Not sure if that was punishment for having 2 fouls and a TO in that short time. He did go 2-for-2 from line. Ndong didn’t get much more time with just 3 minutes. — DaJohn Craig had what appears to be a very good game — 4 pts (2-4), 7 rebs, 2 assists, 1 steal and no turnovers or fouls. If I remember right, he showed some good things early last year against lesser competition and that’s about it. Hopefully he’s taken a step forward and can contribute when games mean something. — 2 of 3 newcomers who came directly from overseas were the only 2 players with a negative +/- small sample size, so not too concerned; but defense is often where players from overseas lack. Munch did have 6 rebounds (2 offensive). — Started with a question, so I’ll end with one. Anyone know why Liutauras Lelevicius is listed as redshirt sophomore on the Beavers roster page? Everything I’ve read makes it seem like he’s coming directly from overseas, so not sure what is with that.

I was at the game. Me and the tens and tens of people . MAYBE 1000 people there. It's always hard to tell when you play a lower division team, but OSU did some bad things but a decent amount of good things. It seemed like there was way more distribution of the ball and therefore scoring by different players. 4 players in double figures, 1 with 9. Since there was no one there, you could hear everything. There seemed to be a lot of communication, and good movement on the offensive side of the ball. I think what I was most happy about, was the pace of play. We were moving way faster, but not completely out of control. Way better ball movement, and more up and down the court. Even with less then 20 seconds left in the game, Tinkle was yelling at them to run up the court and try and get a fastbreak score. He really wanted them to speed up the game. Which was what led to 16 turnovers though. But a lot of them were lazy passes which can be easily fixed, so lets hope they do this year. It's great to have Rataj back of course, he looked good except the to's, but overall had a great game. I thought the bright spots for the "unkown" players were Sy and Fallah. Both played in control and looked very comfortable on the court. Fallah has some really good moves with his back to the basket, he could be a legit player for us, I was very impressed with his game. Again, like I said, it's hard to tell against MSB, but overall I thought OSU played a pretty good game. It certainly was much more entertaining then the past couple of years since the run in the tournament. Lots of things to work on, and need better minutes from some players, but I thought it was a good first game.

I thought when they brought in Fallah, he looked like he could be an 8/5 guy in old Pac 12. Certainly could see a little more from him with being in WCC now. Thanks for the report. Any thoughts on why Marrs and Ndong got so little playing time? Just passed by some of the new guys or do young think WT wanted the foreign players to get some real tick in their first action in CBB in a game that didn’t matter?
