Not often you can win a deciding game for a title when three starters combine to go 9-45 from the field. Well when 3 starters for the other team go 5-26, it works. Were they using basketballs or bricks?

putting your title game on opposite Sunday night football and the NLCS is certainly an interesting choice.

Sounds like the Minnesota head coach is fan message board material.

WNBA players are thinking of going on strike?
What will their demands be? Take a pay cut so the league doesn't go broke as quickly as it would otherwise??

WNBA players are thinking of going on strike? What will their demands be? Take a pay cut so the league doesn't go broke as quickly as it would otherwise?? I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the NBA owner's meeting discussing this strike. "Really... hmmm. So we don't have to pay them for a while? How much does that save us?" I'm not sure what the strike could really result in except more transparency in the overall finances?! The new WNBA media deal isn't their own. It's part of the overall NBA deal... ~$200 mil per over 11 seasons. But, the NBA provides the WNBA with an annual endowment of over $15 million total for 12 teams to cover operating costs like facilities, travel, marketing, and administration. Plus, the NBA as an entity owns 50% of the WNBA, while the 12 WNBA teams own the other 50%. While the NBA peels off about 40% of WNBA revenue, and outside investors get roughly 20%. Meaning that only 40% of WNBA revenue reaches clubs and athletes. The WNBA made a deal with the devil to just survive. Not sure any players' strike is a wise move! 🤔

I think one problem with most women’s sports is the level of play. An all-state boy’s high school basketball team would run a wnba team off the floor. Martina Navratilova at her peak said she wouldn’t win the men’s 16 and under title at Wimbledon. The Olympic gold medal soccer team of Hamm, Fouty and Chastain lost to a Florida state U-15 boys soccer team by a 12-4 score over 3 games. The idea that you are a hater because you don’t watch women’s sports is bullsh*t. Part of my love of sports is watching it played at the highest level. I watch and attend beavers women’s sports because I feel a connection and support all beavers sports. But at the professional level I just can’t get into high school level action. People who like it great, but if you don’t there is not some great character flaw.

To your point re: simply wanting to watch sports at the highest level -> one of the good examples is evolution of women's MMA from about 10 years ago compared to today. Whole different ballgame. A lot of legit mix martial artists now with really advanced skill sets especially ju jitsu and grappling. Pretty cool to see and starting to have some good depth at the various weight classes. 10 years ago it was ROUGH. but yeah.. I can't get into the WNBA. Can barely get into the NBA as well. lol

SI had a big write up on how the W has grown in the last year or two. I guess somebody is reading too much of their own press.

The salary cap is $1.42 million per team X 12 teams = $17.6 million.
How do they lose $50 million?
If they have $32 million in operational expenses and no revenue?

Perhaps the league is run by congress? With respect to women not being able to compete with men - yes and no. It is certainly true that they can't compete with the best men, but a WNBA team getting run off the floor by, say, the Oregon All State Boy's Basketball Team, I'd have my doubts there. Go back and compare the world record times of male swimmers from the 1960's to the comparable women's times today. You'll see the women of today are, in many instances, considerably faster than the male world record holders of yesteryear.

NBA should just say “you’re right, we have been taking advantage of you, we are out.” The WNBA is a subsidized venture that would fail otherwise. The reality is not enough people want to watch it to make it profitable. It is what it is.

There are many, many other costs related with running a professional league beyond player salaries. From what I've seen 2024 income is expected to top out at around $240 million for 12 teams. Expenses expected to be $290 million. Expenses vary by team, but... players, travel that players wanted changed to private, medical/training staff, front office staff/facilities, arena rent & staffing fees, practice facility (rent or financed of their own), insurance of multiple types, etc.
