I believe UNLV and Nevada were a package deal. We didn't want Nevada, and that was enough to kill the deal. UNLV boosters have every right to be upset.
AFA makes out like a bandit. Nobody else wanted them, their Olympic sports are mediocre, but they still score big dinero.
I freely admit I have no inside information, it's just my opinion, and OMMV.
Also, remember we/WSU won't be paying the MWC $14 million in scheduling fees in 2025. That helps offset any penalty we MAY end up paying.

Reports this morning that all MWC members have officially signed to stay in the MWC

Not zero, the movement is already underway and Sac State raised student fees for newfacilities. If they can get the football stadium built first that's a good start. There is also very little opposition to it. The City wants it too. But agree the odds are low both get built. They could potentially use the NBA arena downtown in the interim. sactownsports.com/ncaa-sacramento-state-football-sac-12-plans-new-stadium/ The “movement“ for a new basketball arena at Sacramento State has been “underway“ for about 45 years. With zero progress to show. As far as a new football stadium, the prospects are even less encouraging. The prospects of joining the Pac 12 were also zero. There is a reason they have dubbed the name Sac 12! I don't disagree with you. Its a ridiculous long shot. But if they are going to make the effort to move up in ranks, and the only thing holding them back is their facilities, at some point you need to upgrade the facilities. It's not like this hasn't happened before at other former FCS universities. I can think of 15 or so schools that have moved up in ranks the past 20 years, few of which being in a market the size of Sacramento.

For whatever reason, the movers and shakers in Boise made a commitment to have the best football team they could have, probably sometime in the 60's. In 1950, Boise JC built a 10,000 seat stadium. They won a junior college national championship in 1958. They became a four-year college in 1968, and went to NCAA D2 (Big Sky) in 1970. Bronco Stadium opened that year. Big Sky was reclassified D-1AA in 1978. They won a championship at that level in 1980. They went to D-1A and joined the Big West in 1996. In 2001, they went to the WAC. Dan Hawkins was hired that year and he brought in Chris Petersen as offensive coordinator. Petersen became head coach in 2006. They were undefeated and beat Oklahoma that year. So anyway, it could be done in Sacramento. But they will need a Mountain West invitation first. And then they need money, commitment, and time. Give them a 10-year stretch where they win around 90 games and average 30K or so attendance, then power conferences will be calling.

At this point the Pac 12 doesn't have much room to be real selective. Texas State is in San Marcos. Their stadium is about the same size as what is proposed for Sac State. They don't offer much else in any other sport. Unless you can pry away an elite AAC program, of which there is exactly one, or Uconn WITH hoops, Sac State makes as much sense as any Sunbelt or CUSA team...moreso if you consider TV market, regionalism, and ease of Travel.

Much has been said about facilities at potential PAC 12 members, but let's take a minute to toot our own horn. When my kids came up to OSU 25 years ago, the football stadium was laughable. Since then, the university has done a tremendous job improving things in all sports - basketball locker rooms and practice facilities, football stadium and practice facility, weight rooms, meeting rooms, gymnastics practice facility, baseball stadium . . .
There is good reason why visiting tv announcers always comment on what a terrific place we have to watch football and baseball. We did it to be competitive in the PAC 12 conference. Now, we're going to have the best facilities in the nation at the level where we're going to be competing.
That's a big plus.

Re Sac State:
All they need is:
* Pay the $5 million FCS to FBS transition fee.
* Find a way to fund the 42 additional full scholarships (63 vs. 105).
* Find a way to survive without any CFP payout for seven seasons.
* Find a way to survive during the four-year transition period, when you aren't eligible for a bowl.
* Find a way to hire and pay the increased coaching and support staff needed by an FBS team.
* Build a stadium, and a basketball arena.
* Find a conference.
Comparisons to BSU are not apropos because the rules have changed significantly since BSU moved up. And comparisons to OSU in the 1980s aren't apropos because we were already an FBS team. In my opinion, of course, OMMV.
No problem.

Hey Texas State, what do you think? Wanna come west? I know you're disappointed in the short term in this apocalyptic scenario and it can seem pretty confusing being so far away and not having the level of familiarity that the rest of the southwest has but I promise you won't be half as disappointed with us in the long haul. We were somewhat in Oregon St's shoes in the 2012 WAC when we moved up and schools with far less enrollment like SJSU and Nevada were thrown the last life raft for the MWC and LA Tech and Texas- San Antonio got bailed out to go to CUSA while Texas State was left for dead. We're a pretty down to earth fan base unlike those you're familiar with from UW, UO and departed Bay Area members. We're committed to spending whatever money it takes to keep up with the rest of the PAC and moving up a conference only helps us retain and pay a coach who is looking for growth opportunities without being poached so he can continue to pump out 9-10+ win seasons on a yearly basis for the foreseeable future. Look forward to establishing some long-distance rivalries.
