When we have 5 G5 schools turn us down for membership, I would say we screwed up and did not do our homework before public news went out. I hear SAC state is interested We are a G5 conference. It's not like we're the Big Ten and these schools aren't coming. The AAC schools wanted the Pac to pay the bulk of their departure penalty. Screw that. If you're gonna join us, you're gonna have to prove you want to be here and that means skin in the game. The Pac-2 is not going to pay the entire exit fee for the MWC schools. It may pay some (supposedly the offer to the AAC was $2.5 mil) but not anywhere near the whole $17 million. Nor will the Pac pay anywhere near $10 million in poaching penalties for each team. The $145 million fee bandied about here by some is ridiculous, IMHO. Maybe we'll pay about $30-40 million tops. Which is still less than the $65 million we received from the departing 10 and had specifically set aside for rebuilding the league. "Every day that an 8th member does not appear makes it seem a little worse." We existed as a 2-team conference for almost a year. A few extra days, or even a week, with seven teams is no big deal. I do believe if we can wrap up Gonzaga the 8th team becomes much easier to land. Again, I'm optimistic. I realize that's an unusual mindset for a Beaver fan. Since Gonzaga does not play football we will be a D1 conference but not an FBS conference without 8 football. playing members

Will it? What incentive does the MWC have to agree to one penny less than the amount owed under the terms of the contract? That depends on the success of the latest lawsuit. If OSU wins it goes to zero. If it doesn't get thrown out, odds are it'll get negotiated. it won't go to zero in any circumstances. Maybe reduced with a win

I know we're all hoping that the Pac wins its poaching lawsuit, but I'm not sold that it is likely to happen. And if it doesn't, we really screwed ourselves out of a lot of money. The Pac 2 probably should have realized long ago that an invite to a P4 was not happening and should have just done the reverse merger with the WMC. That way, the biggest chunk of the Pac 12 assets could have been kept by OSU and WSU with some going as an enticement to the MWC members to join our conference. No hard feelings anywhere. Now, it looks like 10s, if not 100s of millions of Pac dollars is going to the weakest part of the MWC so they can rebuild their conference. It doesn't look good at this point. We are rearranging the chairs on the titanic. P4 will continue to poach talent and reduce playoff options and $$. Huge waste of money to get to a spot not much better than a merger would have been. Ego and panic set in. We've had three healthy players in the past 24 hours announce that they're quitting for the year based on nebulous NIL disagreements. The whole system is precarious, and we should not wring our hands every twenty minutes when some new tweet comes out. The entire landscape could be completely unfamiliar in a month, let alone two years. College is at the very nascent stages of a massive reckoning and it is impossible to predict how things will shake out.
The worst thing we can do now is grab an 8th just for the sake of it. There will be other opportunities that come up that don't involve reaching down to a Montana school or a Sac State. Calm everyone

This is now the Pac-12 media valuation according to Jim Williams Not buying that the Pac 12 w/OSU, WSU, Fresno, Boise, CSU, USU, SDSU, and virtually anyone else we can pick up is worth no more than a conference with AFA, UNLV, UNM, UWyo, UNR, SJSU, UHI, and whoever else they can get. Yeah, I don't buy it either. Seems like a laughable conclusion by someone who does valuations and entrenches my belief that these people are full of it.

I think there is some truth to it. We now have BIG 12, BIG, PAC 12, and MWC teams playing in the mountain and pacific time zones. Why should a network spend a lot on content when no one or two conference can deliver the time zone? Just too fractured anymore.

This is now the Pac-12 media valuation according to Jim Williams This guys shows how dumb he is, OSU and WSU deal with CW for THIS year is already more than that. The Mountain West CURRENT media deal is already more than that, smh.... But somehow OSU / WSU plus the biggest drawing MWC teams is going to be less???

Adding Gonzaga will make our conference far more attractive (and financially viable) for the 8th football-playing member. At which point, we will be an FBS conference, with status as probably the top G5 league.

We? Yes, we. We are part of the insane ecosystem that is lurching forward right now. What happened w SC and UNLV is just the tip of the iceberg. Every one of our moves is directly or indirectly related to what is happening around the country. After I said 'we' I went on to comment on the broader realities in college football across the country. I am not ready to concede defeat quite yet

How is that different than this season, when OSU/WSU got a TV rights package bigger than the MWC's with NO LEAGUE to offer? Now we've obtained their top five programs and our TV rights package will decrease?

I don't believe this s%#t for a second. "As a media consultant..." careful dude, or nobody is gonna hire you if you are saying s%#t like this. Someone on reddit was post how weird it is there is a sudden almost orchestrated anti-Pac-12 journalist assault going on. A full "just calm down and relegate to the MWC" mantra. It's on purpose. Both from the "leave us alone" interest from other schools, but also from the big money interest of the other power conferences. All everybody wanted was OSU and WSU to just shut the f%#* up and join the MWC. we just didn't play along. Now we took the best of the MWC and are trying to steal the best of the AAC and the best of other ones too. This is a real threat to the power conferences. Will be be a 5th power conference? No, of course not because they hold the cards there. But we can be good enough and interesting enough that we pull media interest, and media money. that we divert attention away from their conferences. that the pie they want to get smaller and smaller stays bigger. The media was big on sympathy as they were patting us on the head and ushering us downstairs to play with the MWC. but now that we are building something bigger they are mad we are not playing our role. This putz is part of that paradigm. $4M per team, from the top 4 teams of the MWC that was earning MORE than that? an OSU team alone worth $20M and an WSU team worth about $14M? This dudes math ain't mathin'. We aren't even talking about how we concentrated all the basketball talent from the MWC into one place either. He has one side of the equation right... MWC is f%#*ed. Pac-12 only getting $4M a team is outright laughable though.

So the best teams from the MW and OSU/Wazzu is equal to the remaining MW teams? Yea, that's nonsense
