Full share? Doesn't seem rightn unless it's a full share of basketball monies. I'd have rater given that extra money as a bonus split between the schools back east for joining. Seems like there must be something more to that.

Seems like there must be something more to that. Each unit is $2 million with regular season viewership on top of that. With Gonzaga being added, maybe Memphis will accept an offer? Or was Gonzaga the backup?

That announcement may be premature.... Newsweek is reporting that it is a done deal. I see others reporting differently, but they are not quite on that Newsweek level. Did you read their story? They're just quoting Brett McMurphy from twitter.

Gonzaga getting a full conference share WITH NO FOOTBALL TEAM??? In what universe does that make sense? McMurphy jumped the gun. They are talking. And in our universe it makes a lot of sense.

Gonzaga getting a full conference share WITH NO FOOTBALL TEAM??? In what universe does that make sense? In a universe where: * They will earn NCAA basketball revenue units to share with the remainder of the conference. GU earned three units last year, five the year before. It's a basketball ATM. * They will attract many, many more eyeballs and national attention to the conference, thus driving up ratings and the cost of media rights, while significantly improving every other conference member's RPI and ticket sales when they play in rival arenas. * They will give our conference immediate national legitimacy and relevance because it includes the 2nd-best basketball program in the country over the past 15 years. * It immediately kneecaps the WCC, which will be our competition as the top West Coast men's (and women's) basketball conference. GU has the best program in both sexes by far in the WCC. * It will give us tremendous exposure in the huge media market of Seattle, where the Zags are very popular. * It gives us another potential media outlet in ROOT Sports, which broadcasts many GU games. * It gives our conference a convenient, inexpensive travel destination in all sports other than football, and a conference member that is generally very good in MBB, men's soccer and other sports. Unlike Colorado, GU has sports we actually play. For a start.

Gonzaga is all about establishing the brand.
Brand matters.
As much as we whine about east coast bias, the truth is that the Pac-12 has successfully established it's brand as the gold standard of western college athletics.
If we can't claim that mantle in football anymore, it makes sense to try and rise up to that standard in basketball.
Paying Gonzaga a full share to maintain a national brand of excellence is totally worth it.
The only downside is a personal one for me, as I've long lost interest in college basketball...
Then again, if this were to somehow improve OSU's fortunes here, that would also be worth it. =)
