Us, Wazzu, Gonzaga, Fresno State, San Diego State ... even if we stay independent, a home-and-home with those four opponents fills 24 games and gives us 12 home games to start with.

With the way our conference is shaping up, it appears independent baseball may be our only way to go.
Like stated earlier, you could have some guaranteed games every year with the few teams that actually have baseball.
I’m not sure what other option we have. It’s certainly weird to have a top 10 program in the country to not have a legit conference. People have mentioned us joining other conferences as “baseball only,” but is that even a real possibility?

People have mentioned us joining other conferences as “baseball only,” but is that even a real possibility? Only need 6 teams to keep the automatic bid in baseball. A smaller conference would allow for more non conference games against hopefully quality competition. |

If people think a competitive schedule can be made year in and year out to assure an independent gets a bid and keep the fan base paying for season tix, then a smaller conference will allow the same thing with guaranteed auto bid. As of now, without seeing the final schedule it appears our quality games are dependent on being invited to pre-season events and playing games near those while in those areas. OSU will not keep getting the same invites annually. Plus from what I've seen it is not a particularly fantastic schedule. Better than Surprise, but not current baseball powerhouses. The point is... auto bid is HUGE, and scheduling 26-30 NC games is much easier than 56. But, overall the home slate is never going to match the Pac12 slates on a consistent basis. |

Big West turned us down as it was a temporary arrangement and as a coach in the conference do you want your one NCAA berth to be taken and have to fight for an at-large bid? Pretty easy decision is I was coaching there. I can schedule OSU in NC, why have to beat them for a conference/NCAA berth?! |

Pretty easy decision is I was coaching there. I can schedule OSU in NC, why have to beat them for a conference/NCAA berth?! I didn’t say turndown was wrong, was just pointing out to the previous poster that getting into a conference is no easy task |

It was a miracle to build this program to what it is in the first place......it'd be a real shame to see it fade. I agree that the direction we seem to be heading does not seem like a plus to sell to top high school recruits, or top portal kids. Why would they want to play in the resurrected Pac 12 when they could go to the SEC/ACC or even Big 12?.....much higher level of baseball. Agree that it's likely indi or joining Big 12 for baseball......but I don't think they want us. |

As long as there are enough teams, it will be the Pac 12. Minimum 6 teams, small conference schedule, play a strong non conference schedule.
