As long-time Beaver fans, we find a way to be happy (well, except those fans who enjoy being unhappy). I guess some college football fans can only be happy with a national championship. I'm ok with being happy with a win or a good game and letting the big picture develop, without me stressing about it. Being the best is the goal, but being happy on the journey is crucial too.
So, yeah, sometimes we just smile about the little things. The little thing that made me smile this week is when I went to ESPN to look at stats and found OSU under the "Pac-12", with the realization that it's going to stay that way for the foreseeable future! The devil is in the details and no telling what the future holds, but I am so, so thrilled that the Pac-12 lives and that the Beavers (and Cougars) are the reason. Big smile for that.
Go Beavs! Mike '84

Yeah!
I liked hearing the reports of how many schools reached out to us to get in.
We're definitely not in a terrible position. Not ideal, but not that bad.

Ours was aptly name "purple Jesus"... drink too much and you saw... Drink just enough everything was a positive on those Saturday afternoons... Yep!

I remember back in the 70s/80s when husky students got into the first rows of the student section and were pummeled by every type of container (most empty). Lost the game (of course) but that was fun. They just never learned to take the high ground.

Unfortunately, it was the Sacramento State game. These guys are fans of Alabama, Oklahoma and Ohio State mainly. We'd get a first down everybody would do the first down chant, and they were blown away. "You guys do that for every first down?" "Used to be, that's all we had."

Not often but every once in a while we would score first or hold to a FG and score a TD. A LEAD... an effing LEAD It never typically lasted long, but the brain would go into fantasy mode, "what if??"

My post wasn't intended to start a thread looking back on how bad things used to be, but I don't mind us reminding ourselves how we always persevered as fans. Some people would look at these stories, roll their eyes, shake their heads, and say that we clearly do not understand what College Football is all about. I contend that it's just the opposite. Stories like this show that we DO understand what College Football is all about. We might be a rare breed nowadays, but I think we get it better than most. That's one reason I think we, more than most fans, can weather what happened to us and our conference.

Mike '84 I think this like one of those Hallmark Christmas movies my daughter likes watching. The one where some wealthy royalty visits a small town and falls in love with the struggling bookstore owner. Then she dumps the other guy.
Same stories, different settings in those hallmark movies. Let's not forget the puppies either.

My first game at OSU was vs. Stanford in 1984. We led 21-0 in the first quarter, fell behind 28-21 and missed a chance to tie late when Reggie Bynum dropped a 50-50 ball in the end zone. We lost.
Welcome to Beaver football.

I am HONESTLY NOT one of the “blame the zebras” for every loss, BUT….. I can’t remember ALL the times a phantom or MISSED call cost the Beavs at the most inopportune time. Dozens of games we were either leading or had some momentum only to be devastated by a (not so) questionable call. MOST of the time we were in the friendly ( ) confines of Parker stadium. It was bizarre. I remember those as MUCH as I remember the wins. My bad

Once upon a time, Beavers fans stormed the field and tore down the goalposts because we went 6-5. It felt like we had won the Super Bowl, the World Series, and the Finals all at once. Perspective means everything! Speaking of which, I'm starting to think that being a bigger fish in a smaller pond might not be such a bad thing for OSU athletics.
