The Rose Bowl is attempting to remove itself from the rotation of the CFP format and go back to a January 1 game at 1:00 to line up with the Rose parade and keep the traditions alive. Some where Keith Jackson is smiling

They just don't want to host a semifinal. They are not removing themselves from the rotation, though, they will host a quarterfinal if asked, or the national championship (I believe).

Interesting stuff there. Apparently, there is no real contract yet, which is weird, because, y'know the 12-team playoff is supposed to start this year.
If the Rose Bowl chooses not to be a Semifinal, there is no way that that can be divided up equally. You will have 12 semifinals over the six-year contract divided by five bowls. Each bowl hosts a semifinal twice and two get an extra host spot?
They may have to extend the contract to 10 years to get that to work right, unless the Sugar Bowl or one of the other bowls tries to make a similar deal.
We will see.

They want to host a Quarterfinal annually on January 1st at 2:00 pm PT. They just do not want to host a semifinal. |

I think they very much a Top Gear type reaction.  Every Oregon fan I have heard talking about the upcoming season is super excited. And if I'm being honest, I'd be excited about an upcoming Big12 slate, if that was in the cards for Oregon State this year. I think the only ones that care are us and Washington State. The MW fans are all enjoying a certain amount of schadenfreude seeing someone else get screwed like they feel they have been for decades, waiting for a chance to join one of the p5 conferences. The numbers speak for themselves. There are more eyeballs watching college football than ever, it's not contracting.... even though it feels like it. because we just got left out to die. |

And last year was with Texas & Oklahoma. Without them, many fewer eyeballs, much less reason to watch that hot garbage of a league. Cincinnati at Iowa State or UCF against anyone doesn't move the needle for me.

The Big Ten and the Big 12 aren't crashing and burning anytime soon.The Big East said similar things once upon a time, as did the Pac-12. Yeah, but you can say that about every conference. The difference is that there is nothing to indicate that the Big Ten or Big 12 are potentially going to have issues in the near future. The Big 12 did not break up when it could have and instead added schools and probably will add more. The Big Ten is stronger than ever. |
