As I decide on how closely I will follow the careers of the Elite 8 Run(aways), I visited Dom's new bio page at UK: ukathletics.com/sports/wbball/roster/player/dominika-paurova/Interesting to see how Oregon State as "Previous School" is a part of the lead-in overview. So, I clicked on a few other UK roster bios..... 1) "Previous School" is part of the template, an entry for players. 2) Boy howdy, I thought, the UK roster sure needs that entry. 3) Some are on a journey where "Previous to Previous School" and "Previous to Previous to Previous School" entries might be useful But then I realized our own roster is probably similarly stocked with such transfers, though we don't make it part of the player bio heading. And then I once again realized the world of college athletics has changed, and I have a couple more months to digest the change, at least as far as WBB is concerned. And I need to learn to enjoy the team of the season, and quit thinking in 4 or 5 year chunks. Anyway, a random offseason thought. Go Beavers!

I previously cared about Dominika.

May she go and be well.

She's already got the go part completed. I'm fine with the be well part, but I don't have any interest in how she accomplishes it. She opted for her and OSU fans to be ships passing in the night - once out of sight, out of mind.

I think it is interesting to follow the Elite 8 departures because it was such an unprecedented loss of talent (without the head coach leaving). It may give us clues on what type of player we can retain, or if the coach needs to make some adjustments in their interactions with the players. I get a sense it was a mix of players wanting more social media clicks, NIL money, personality conflicts among players, and some coaching philosophy.

I previously cared about Dominika. I don’t know that I “cared about her”, but I enjoyed watching her play.

I thought Dom got injured this summer, lower leg, and would be out for a while? I enjoyed Dom's game. Hope nothing but the best for her. Agreed, it is interesting checking up on the "Elite 8" teammates who left the program.

Going from the Pac-12 to the WCC was the main reason by far.

Not necessarily, not for all. Some left for the Bag.

Not necessarily, not for all. Some left for the Bag. The WCC move gave some of them the the excuse to go for the gold, so it's a combined issue.

The team shattering had nothing to do with money and nothing to do with the WCC.

The team shattering had nothing to do with money and nothing to do with the WCC. Okay, then. Explain? My prediction. None of the departed players will play in another Elite Eight game. 2023/24 Oregon State will be the competitive pinnacle of their respective individual careers.

The team shattering had nothing to do with money and nothing to do with the WCC. Okay, then. Explain? To be clear, five of them ended up making more money than at OSU, but they didn't leave based on that. And only two went where they went partly based on money. Two people talked to me because they felt Rueck was being unfairly blamed. But then they both decided they said too much and asked me to not say any more specifics. Also, I think that last couple did think about being stuck in the WCC without their teammates and left with the flood.

"Enjoy team of the season" encapsulates the near future of college athletics and fans' response. Excellent phrase. Summarizes college sports' evisceration.
The easiest/unlikely solution: limit transfers to once.
