You would think 9pm EST would favor us. That feels like 6pm to us, a normal starting time, but will feel quite late for the Kentuckians

Pretty sure 2nd game is 9 pm EST not PST. So, do you think that will help OSU? Will it make up for any time zone adjustments due to later eastern time starts? Probably means fewer buts in seats with a fan base that already cares more about football and basketball off season recruiting than their baseball team hosting a super.

That second game won't end until at least 12:30am since its an elimination game, and the team down 0-1 will be doing pitching changes like crazy at the slightest moment things seem to be going sideways.
Once again, television never cares about the fans at the game.

I think OSU got a great break with the Saturday start instead of Friday and getting 2 night games to start. Should be slightly cooler weather and help with any time zone adjustments.

I think OSU got a great break with the Saturday start instead of Friday and getting 2 night games to start. Should be slightly cooler weather and help with any time zone adjustments. Friday-Saturday-Sunday Super Regionals: 2011, 2013, 2017, 2018Saturday-Sunday-Monday Super Regionals: 2005, 2006, 2007, 2022, & 2024
I guess that we are doing a decadal thing. We start on Saturday in the 2000s and Friday in the 2010s. Now that we are in the 2020s, it is back to Saturday.
The only previous road Super Regional was 2011. Sonny Gray threw the first pitch at 7:06 p.m. local time on Friday, and Ben Wetzler threw the first pitch at 8:06 p.m. local time on Saturday.
What is crazy (at least to me) is that sunset is not until 8:59 p.m. in Lexington, Kentucky, because Lexington is in the wrong time zone. So, the Saturday game is probably more like a late afternoon game than a night game.
Just looking at the weather, you have good weather on Friday getting progressively worse until Sunday. 35% chance of rain on Sunday with a reprieve on Monday. If Sunday rains out, I believe that they will make the series a Saturday-Monday-Tuesday Super Regional. It would have been better weatherwise to start on Friday. We will see how the weather forecast shakes out as we get closer, but I worry that Oregon State's seeming advantage in 1-2 starters gets mooted, because the Kmatz start will be impacted by weather.
This makes Kentucky's decision to flipflop Trey Pooser and Dominic Niman look even better, because Pooser will be back on Saturday on 100% full rest. And it gives Kentucky the option of flipflopping Mason Moore and Dominic Niman for the Sunday start.
Looking forward, teams with Saturday starts in the Super Regional start on Saturday in Omaha. It should be noted that Friday-Saturday-Sunday Super Regionals started on Saturday from 2011-2021. The upshot is that Oregon State has always started the College World Series on a Saturday and has always been scheduled to start on a Saturday, even when they lost the Super Regional. In 2024, Oregon State is once again scheduled to start the College World Series on a Saturday.
The Saturday start at the College World Series in 2024 makes coming back from a loss more difficult. This obviously helped Oregon State in 2007 but hurt Oregon State in 2006. 2018 Oregon State had three extra days to come out of the losers' bracket than 2006 Oregon State (one day for the earlier start, one day for a different schedule, and one day for a rainout before the Championship Series started). 2013 and 2018 Oregon State benefited from the extra day in attempting to come back from a loss in the opener. 2017 was bit by having Alex Lange coming back in game three after starting the opener, because of the later start.
The last four National Champions had the later start. The last team that won a National Championship with an earlier start was 2018 Oregon State. 2018 Oregon State is one of five teams that won a National Championship with the earlier start in the last 25 College World Series, dating back to 1998. The others were 2009 LSU, 2012 Arizona, 2014 Vanderbilt, and 2015 Virginia.
