I am done with PAC-12 WBB games. The play was over the top rough, aggressive, too much banging around, and ultimately not fun to watch basketball. I am looking forward to WCC Style of play. Faster paced, crisper passing, lots of well executed plays.

The WCC is faster paced, crisper passing? LOL.

I'm hanging in there until Rueck is done. Good for you! I think I will too, because part of the enjoyment I've experienced is watching him build a program. If the worst happens, it will require patience... probably at least 2-4 years before it really shows much progress. It also will require accepting that the pinnacle of his achievement will likely not be as high as it would be in a P5 program (assuming we don't find a way back to one) - which is certainly disappointing, but is it really that different from what we've experienced with the football program even in a P5 conference? You are left taking satisfaction in those occasional upset victories and perhaps a great year once a decade or so (e.g. Fiesta Bowl). There is also little doubt he'll assemble another group of great ladies that are easy to root for.

Year after year, I rabidly support the women's basketball team, good times and bad, and watching these young women grow and enjoy playing for 'their university.' But it isn't their university, is it? Precious few seem to stick it out for the 4 years. This year's team enjoyed phenomenal success on the court, great support from the fan base, fabulous trips to Hawaii and Europe, and claimed to love each other to pieces. Now, once more, in spite of being able to do it all again (except Italy) next year, the disintegration from within has commenced. I can't help but wonder how many of them came back this year just so they could go to Italy. I have determined that my ongoing support is an exercise in futility, a lost cause. I won't renew my tickets or membership in the Rebounders, and I won't attend any more dinners. I'll stay on Benny's House, but, going forward, I don't anticipate posting much on this women's hoops board - probably vent my frustration for the next few weeks, and then be done. It just is not a two way street as it should be. It sounds like you were never a fan. Players have always and will always come and go. NCAA tier 1 sports (FB, MBB, WBB) are in a transition right now and everyone is still learning how to do things in this new reality including coaches, players, and fans. WE, as fans, have the easiest job and we're needed now more than ever.

You can still support the Oregon State, the name on the front of the jersey, and I will. I won't buy in on any player until they're a junior and apparently committed to being a Beaver instead of using us as a placeholder or steppingstone.

When it’s all said and done… IMO Rueck is a very good evaluator and developer. He’ll find kids who signed up to play in the WCC and develop them. Much like Lisa Fortier does at Gonzaga. Next year might be rough anticipating a roster overhaul, but it’ll depend on who stays. Also, there’s a lot of coaches who are content with coaching at a mid major conference and consistently doing really well and making the tournament. Fortier at Gonzaga, Smesko at FGCU, Fernendez at USF. I disagree on the developer side of things. Partly its because he deploys a very "system" heavy game so I can imagine there isn't a lot of time to develop players. There also aren't any player development coaches on staff. I think this is a contributor to the recent departure of Timea. I believe she has the highest ceiling of anyone on this year's roster. I think the system just didn't allow her to play her game.

hoopheretic,
In regards to your recent comment, apparently the "system" heavy game did allow her to command a very healthy "pay day" elsewhere that she would have likely not received otherwise (grin!).
Go Beavs!

Glad you aren't in the front office (hopefully).

I take on no ownership beyond being an at-will fan. If it's a good product from my university, I'll tune in. Else I'm out until that changes. I'm not going to suffer with them, I see no point in it.
Players cycle fast at the college level even in the best of times, as 4 years is not long, especially when development is taken into account. It's been pretty unique for Rueck to have Freshman come in as ready as they have been of late, Dono being a very big surprise. Picked 10th in Pac-12 and instead finishing top 10 nationally represented an outstanding entertainment value -- no matter what happens next, you got an amazing return on last year's emotional investment!
At the end of the day, it's college kids; they do silly things, it's part of the fun. And it's an entertainment product; when it stops being entertaining, what's the point? certainly I lost no sleep, or even time, tuning into MBB this year. I guess I'm just an OSU bandwagoner, but I just don't see the benefit of tuning into a bad entertainment product; to me it's like refusing to tune out of a movie that clearly hasn't captured you after 10 minutes.

Recall last time we play UOP we had a hard time keeping up Alex Fowler.

Oregon State's pace of play isn't representative of the Pac-12 as a whole. But I'm betting on the 23-24 Beavers against any WCC team if you want to get out and run. There is a huge gap in athleticism between the Pac-12 and the WCC. I don't want to come across like I think the WCC is terrible or anything but the Pac-12 has been extremely strong in women's basketball for years. Too bad it's over.

I suppose SR, after picking himself off the floor.... has to wait .... a bit....before offering the, "you'll always be a Beaver." "We're (so) happy for you!" requirment. I hope and PRAY it ends HERE. (doubt it).
