Year after year, I rabidly support the women's basketball team, good times and bad, and watching these young women grow and enjoy playing for 'their university.' But it isn't their university, is it? Precious few seem to stick it out for the 4 years.
This year's team enjoyed phenomenal success on the court, great support from the fan base, fabulous trips to Hawaii and Europe, and claimed to love each other to pieces. Now, once more, in spite of being able to do it all again (except Italy) next year, the disintegration from within has commenced. I can't help but wonder how many of them came back this year just so they could go to Italy.
I have determined that my ongoing support is an exercise in futility, a lost cause. I won't renew my tickets or membership in the Rebounders, and I won't attend any more dinners. I'll stay on Benny's House, but, going forward, I don't anticipate posting much on this women's hoops board - probably vent my frustration for the next few weeks, and then be done.
It just is not a two way street as it should be.

When it’s all said and done…
IMO Rueck is a very good evaluator and developer. He’ll find kids who signed up to play in the WCC and develop them. Much like Lisa Fortier does at Gonzaga. Next year might be rough anticipating a roster overhaul, but it’ll depend on who stays.
Also, there’s a lot of coaches who are content with coaching at a mid major conference and consistently doing really well and making the tournament. Fortier at Gonzaga, Smesko at FGCU, Fernendez at USF.

There's no "answer"... it's a combo of lots of BS. Bottom line I come back to I support the school, OSU. In my naivety I assume that is a large reason why players come here. That has disappeared over the years.
But, it's not on the fans nor any lack of support. Adding another financial component to being a fan is BS. The portal, NIL, transfers aren't on us fans. I'll just say I'm tired of calls and emails asking me for $. I spend thousands in tickets, parking, hotels, food, airfare, rental cars, seat license fees, etc etc etc.
DON'T KEEP ASKING FOR MORE...

I feel 'ya, rgeorge. I just don't feel it's OSU's (the university or athletic dept.) fault for what's happening so denying them your money punishes the wrong people. It's your money and obviously you can spend it the way you choose, but consider who is suffering if there's a decrease in contributions. Do you want to punish these players or the team?

Let's see what happens in the next week or two or however long it takes. I know it was reported that Hunter will enter the portal but I'm not sure about the source of that report. Maybe that will happen, maybe not. Maybe Beers will stay, maybe not. IDK. I do know that if Beers stays along with a good base of teammates, I'm going to feel fairly positive about the team moving forward.

I'll keep doing what I'm doing. I'm tired of all the extra requests. It seems like after every win it's "give us some more money". Tired of the ask. Especially NIL crap. You know as lowly school districts we figured out that the community got tired of separate groups/programs going out and find raising. Hence, there were two major fundraisers each school year. Raising far more money than these individual "door to door" asks. Then groups applied for grants. OSU does both... and the almost weekly asks are getting old. And, I get the sense many others are growing very frustrated with it. Some... have turned off their spigot completely for now. My $ to the AD and two academic schools will continue.

It just is not a two way street as it should be. It's maddening. I've had to step back as well. It's unhealthy to get too attached to any of these programs. Big picture.......We are, for the most part, a farm system for the "haves.". I've had season Tix to baseball for years, and while I'm excited about this team, I'm not nearly as invested as I was in the past. I'm preparing myself for this program to be dismantled as well. I hope that doesn't happen, but it will be a softer blow if I'm prepared for it. That's the life of a Beaver sports fan......lots of disappointment, with occasional euphoria.

I think what fan's will start to learn is that they can also "portal out" so to speak with a program. I think that will be the biggest change you will see in college sports now is that fans will realize that they also have the power to portal out.
Until it hurts the bottom line nationally you won't see schools pushing for a change. They assume fans are their one constant with coaches and players moving around on a whim but I think they will be in for a surprise, Fans are catching on with this NIL and musical chair games going on right now,

It used it be, if you wanted to be a Beaver fan, you should build a brick wall and bash your head into it every morning to get acclimated to the pain. Now I advise you to stub your toe in the door jamb on the way back inside.
Daily doses of this will hopefully get you through this period.
Go Beavs!!

Interesting take.....sounds like a duck thing. You are the one pushing the farm system narrative. Ultimate quitters mentality but that is your opinion and now you are quitting on baseball too? Wow!

Wait, what? I'm confused. I meant no disrespect. It just sounds like a duck bandwagon type thing for fans to hit the "portal" And to be clear, I very much support OSU athletics. For my own mental health, and blood pressure, I've stepped back a bit......I'm not quitting.
