I can forgive some defensive errors, those are physical mistakes. It’s the mental errors, especially on the base paths that we have to clean up. Between this weekend and last weekend I think we have been picked off 3 to 4 times, had a couple of bad steal attempts in big moments, and thrown out at home on a weak fly ball with a slow base runner. Those things can be fixed. Agreed.....also, this is not one of the better defensive Beaver lineups....so far. Hitting is obviously the focus. Just seems to me like we need to clean up some of the less glamorous parts of our game if we want to make a serious run. We all know hitting can go cold.....we already saw that against the Arky ace All good points. I think using the Arkansas game as a point of reference for a bad offensive game is kind of a bad take. Hagen Smith is either the best or 2nd best pitcher in college baseball and we lost a one run game in the bottom of the 9th with a runner on 3rd base. Sometimes you just get beat.

Weber pinches for smith in a pressure situation. Yowza Props to Canham on that one. While it was absolutely a bloop single, Webber put bat on ball. I was concerned that we would pay later on defense, it never happened.

Different lineups don’t cause players to forget how to run the bases. Were just way too aggressive on base running. It's often not necessary. Can only hope the experience helps when it is necessary. Especially with the offense we have today, let alone the one we'll have when Mitch starts inserting names like McDowell, Kasper, and Caraway back in the lineup.

Just saw that #6 Florida got swept by Missouri. Now that they are 17-4 are they finally going to drop out of the top 10? nah, they lost to a team that swept Florida, they should move up a few spots. Thats a quality ass loss right there.

Bloop indeed - I commented to my companion - "Hainline might have caught it" - btw Grenier would have made it look easy .... but still it was one of the most important AB's of the game. In PAC 12 games (admittedly, small sample at this point in season): Weber .357 BA and 1.240 OPS // Smith .217 BA / .640 OPS
Smith has been remarkable (and much better than Weber) on steal attempts, no question.....but Weber has 0 errors & only 2 pb on the season as a whole. bottom line: They're both very valuable Catchers to the Beavers lineup.

The losses this week were all by a single run on the road so that should be win, because, Florida. Maybe they slip to #9. It's been a joke all year. Hopefully this sends them plummeting to where they belong.

Each of the last 2 games OSU has cost themselves a run. Yesterday it was a caught stealing followed by a HR. Today it was a pick off followed by a HR.

Maybe an outlier, but the point is definitely valid. Good pitching can beat good hitting. There have been other games where our bats were cold. If we are not fundamentally sound on defense, and the base paths, along with cold bats, and suspect pitching, we can be beat.

The mental mistakes we are making will definitely bite us in the butt come crunch time in June. I just didn’t think using Hagen Smith as an example of good pitching beating us was valid. The guys beats any team in the country with his best stuff.

All im saying is if we think we can go into the postseason and mash the ball, play sloppy, and be inconsistent on the mound, we will likely end up disappointed......maybe spend some more time on the things we need to improve on, and less BP. Just my .02
