I have read articles from Cal and Utah, which indicates that, despite the Pac-12 breaking up, the Alamo, Holiday, Las Vegas, Sun, LA, and Independence Bowls will retain the first right to select the 12 teams from the Pac-12.
The Alamo Bowl really wants to trade its rights for the rights to select an SEC team, but we will see, if that occurs.
The bowl selection order for both current and former Pac-12 members in 2024 should be:
1. Alamo
2. Holiday
3. Las Vegas
4. Sun
5. LA
6. Independence
In 2025, the Holiday and Las Vegas bowls will switch order, pursuant to the contract. Also, the Independence Bowl may fall off, because the Independence Bowl's contract with the Pac-12 only runs through the 2024 season.
There is probably some i's to dot and t's to cross, before all is said and done, but that makes sense.
What sucks is that the Sun Bowl can exercise its no-repeat rule and not select Oregon State in 2024.
Hopefully, it all works out well for Oregon State.

We'll be the highest ranked G5 team so it won't matter It’s the highest ranked G5 team in a conference that gets the auto bid. We have to be ranked in the top 12 to get one of the at large bids since we are not in a conference. |

We'll be the highest ranked G5 team so it won't matter We aren't a G5 team, we are a Pac12 team, and the Pac12 is not recognized as a viable conference for and league championships. We don't play in a recognized conference at all this year for football. When it comes to the CFP, for this year we are essentially an independent. Top 12 or bust. For sports that are parked in the WCC, they will be able to win championships and get auto bids, not football and not baseball. |
