Rueck is a superior coach - anyone who fails to recognize that simply does not understand basketball.
However, he is a superior coach that not every program wants as their head coach. His coaching style, with its emphasis on disciplined defense, and methodical offence, is not viewer friendly, especially to casual fans. Neither does it make for great TV audiences - - unless you've assembled a powerhouse team.
Years ago, Coach Harrick, who was coaching at Pepperdine, was beaten by Ralph Miller's Beavs in the early rounds of the tourney. After the game he told a reporter that if he coached the same style of basketball as Miller he'd be laughed out of the gym at Pepperdine. When reminded that Miller and his style won the game, Harrick simply replied "Doesn't matter."
Long story short: Tennessee has neither the patience nor the inclination to gamble on Rueck's style of winning!🏀 GO BEAVS!!

a few years ago Rueck's coaching beat Tennessee, breaking their long home court winning streak. Their coach was stomping and grimacing on the sidelines and after the game made some very odd statements that got her fired.

We beat them in March 2018 and she was fired after the following season if I remember.

I remember her getting fired but after I posted discovered she was fired for losing in the first round the next season.

Heard on Canzano’s podcast, a few weeks ago, that Joe Lunardi is going to come out and consult with the WCC on scheduling. Certainly, could see some benefit with an ESPN guy pitching matchups.

That's interesting, because what they've put out there so far is that the women will play a full round robin conference schedule, which would make 20 conference games. The talk was the men would only play 18 conference games.

I'm of the opinion that any transfers are because of the drop down to the WCC. None of our players except maybe Beers, maybe, Gardiner would command huge NIL deals, whether those really exist or not. And moreso Beers because skilled productive bigs just aren't a dime a dozen. Who knows man, all this is just horses%#t! Either that or SR is packing for Tennessee. The Vols have decided to hire Kim Caldwell from Marshall as their next head women's basketball coach: 247sports.com/college/tennessee/article/lady-vols--230026794/

Tennessee firing coaches who win and make the tournament, but don't make the Final Four, is reminiscent of Nebraska firing football coaches who only won 8 or 9 games a year. Now, in their best years, Nebraska is a mediocrity. Tennessee could find themselves heading in the same direction. I say that knowing absolutely nothing about Caldwell. Not knocking her in any way or questioning the hire; more questioning the fire I suppose.

One year coaching in D1, had an immediate big turn around at Marshall. Clearly she can coach, but Tennessee is an entirely different kind of job than anything she's had so far. We'll see how it works out.

Shoot, I got my small schools in the Willamette Valley mixed up. Same conference even.
