Interesting. In Pac-12 Conference games OSU is: #1 in scoring defense #1 in 3pt FG defense #2 in FG % defense And yet, no OSU players on all-Pac-12 defensive team.

It’s pretty clear that for the Pac12 WBB award voters, defense= steals or blocks. Brink and Betts #1 and #2 in blocks, Pueyo was #1 in steals, Sherrod #4.

Keep in mind that it's the coaches voting. From their perspective, the results makes sense.
Against UCLA and Colorado, coaches adjust their game plan for Betts and Sherrod. They tell the players to watch where those numbers are on the court.
Against OSU, coaches can't just adjust for TVO or Beers. They have to adjust for the whole d*** team.

Based on the defensive stats above, OSU is the Pac 12 Defensive Team of the Year, but there probably isn't an honor bracket for that.

Historically that's fairly typical isn't it? Hamblin won DPOY a couple times IIRC, but she blocked a lot of shots. Hanson was recognized by OSU fans as a defensive stopper, can't remember if she was on all Pac 12 defensive team, but fairly certain she was never POY. For most of his tenure Rueck has had stingy defensive teams, without a lot of players getting individual accolades.

ALL-DEFENSIVE TEAM Honorable Mention (received at least one vote): Raegan Beers, OSU; Dalayah Daniels, WASH; Donovyn Hunter, OSU; Rayah Marshall, USC; Esmery Martinez, ARIZ; Jaddan Simmons, ASU; Ines Vieira, UTAH; Talia von Oelhoffen, OSU; JuJu Watkins, USC; Kindyll Wetta, COLO. Apparently I should have been more clear. Talia should have been more than honorable mention. I guess to me the 5 person all-defensive team and the anyone receiving votes honorable mention are two very different things. Clear enough for me. I always thought if you were honorable mention you did not make the team.

There's a reason coaches tout a "team defense" philosophy. You don't need 5 individual lockdown defenders if you play defense as a cohesive unit.

It would have looked pretty weird if they ignored what Plum said.

Talia thinks someone is missing from these awards This is the reason she is a starter. AJ won't get the recognition she deserves because she isn't flashy. She just does what needs to be done. When asked about who keeps the team together off of the court AJ and Sela are the names you will hear. Just another way that AJ is a "glue" player. During the mass exodus AJ was right there with Talia honoring their commitment to OSU. Without these two the Beavs would be in a very different place.

The 6th person award has been around for 6 years. 2019 was the 1st year and Aleah won it. Last year Raegan won the 5th year and now Timea wins the 6th year. 3/6 is pretty good. Interesting that all 3 were better than the starter in their position and were in at the end of the game when it counts. If I recall correctly all 3 played more minutes than the starters.

In that season Aleah was fourth among the team's guards in minutes, behind Pivec, McWilliams and Slocum. She was behind Tudor as well until her devastating injury in the first Pac-12 game. I thought she had passed Katie, though it was Slocum she often got off the court.
