Knight is worth 42 billion. Huang is worth 61 billion. Both can give to whoever or whatever they want to. But I will say Mr. Knight has given billions to athletics, education, medical, etc...All I know is Mr. Huang has given 50 million to OSU. Being greedy I don't desire Mr. Huang buy a university like Knight has but some donation to the athletic department would be greatly appreciated. Phil is 85 years old and has been retired for 8 years, I'm not even sure Jensen was a billionaire 8 years ago, the amazing stock price rise of Nvidia is mostly in the last 2 years. In 2019 it was in the 30's and now it is 780 per share. OSU is in a fantastic spot having an alum like Mr Huang. President Murthy is all over it: "It was wonderful to visit the bustling NVIDIA campus and experience Jensen Huang's vision for these spaces. We are excited for the Jen-Hsun and Lori Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex on our Corvallis campus as it will increase OSU’s support for the semiconductor and technology industry in Oregon and beyond. Thanks to Jack Dahlgren for hosting us. Shawn L. Scoville Oregon State University Oregon State University Foundation"

OFFS! NO ONE was denigrating the man for NOT giving to athletics. Most all of us acknowledge the 50 mil he gave the university, and are thankful for it. It was just a WISH LIST, on my part for something to the AD. It would…..help. Let’s make damn sure we parse over every sentence, wording, our judgment about the intent of the “texter,” because goddammit, we want to exploit any perceived weakness in their “argument.” It didn’t start out as an argument. Just some info, and a “wouldn’t it be nice” opinion.

I've heard through reliable sources that Jensen was also responsible for the anonymous $50MM donation to Reser.

A single share for $30ish in 2019 and through the split nets you $3150 right now. that is a bazillion percent return. a $1,000 investment in 2019 is worth $104,000 today.

Bad math. It was about $160/share in 2019. Split 4-1. So, ~$40/share. Up almost 20x since 2019.

I got a friend who sold several thousand bucks worth of Apple at what is now a split adjusted 26-28 cents back in the early 2000's. Oh well, he's done well for himself, but I never bring up Apple any more when we're talking about the stock market.

Lots to digest in this thread.
I don't think Jensen is anti-sports. He just wasn't as crazy about the sports teams as the rest of us when we were at OSU. He and Lori definitely made the better long-term choice when they put their donation toward the computing center rather than stadium expansion and coaches' salaries. I give a bit to OSU Athletics every year (not just for my seats) and will continue to do so, but the world of college football is so screwed up right now that it doesn't exactly make you want to donate to keep the insanity going.
Still, as others have said, a couple hundred million thrown toward OSU Athletics would come in handy about now. :-)
As for investing in Nvidia stock, I just talked to a guy 2 days ago that bought 100 shares when Nvidia had their IPO in the 90's. With all the splits, that 100 shares would have grown to 4800 shares today if he'd kept them all. He sold 3/8 of his shares in 2006 to recapture his initial investment. He sold another 1/6 of his remaining shares this week when the stock shot up another $100 per share, for a cool $300K or so. The shares he has left are worth almost $2M today. How many of us would have held on to the shares through all the ups and downs?

I can't quite fathom why the Resers make an anonymous donation to Reser Stadium. And they very un-anonymously funded the Patricia Reser Center for the Creative Arts.

I can’t understand why it was anonymous, but I was told that it was them by a couple of different people in the AD office. I thought maybe it was Phil throwing us a bone.

I'm not doubting it was the Resers. And hey, if they want it to be anonymous that's their prerogative. More power to 'em.
