Hainline in one heck of a slump. He will come out of it, but... You have to wonder if MC considers swapping him in the batting order with Caraway until he works his way out of it. You have to wonder if MC considers swapping him out of the batting order altogether in favor of Jabin Trosky? I am confused why Hainline is batting in front of anyone.

I doubt he would do that 5 games in, but if it continues through the weekend......maybe. Or, maybe he gives Trosky one game this weekend.

Hainline gets benefit of the doubt based on last season.....so did Guerra. Difference is Guerra is coming alive. Hainline needs a break out game at the plate, or Trosky will surely get in at SS.

I don't know if this link will work, but the side by side offensive comparison really illustrates where there was a big difference in hitting in our favor as it relates to production on the scoreboard. LINK

It's not like he's lighting it up at SS either.....we've had light hitting SS get the nod before because of their outstanding D. Trevor Morrison comes to mind. He's go time to get out of his slump. Still more concerned about the pitching. We got out-hit and our pitchers gave up 8 walks. Thankfully, they didn't take advantage of the free passes and supplied us with 10 free passes that we got some timely hits with. We need more strikes from our pitchers. Not often you're going to walk 8 and give up 10 hits, but only 4 runs. The last time that the Beavs gave up 8+ walks and 10+ hits and only allowed four or fewer runs was back in 2017. Oregon State beat Utah 5-4 in 16 innings, one of the Beavs' two longest games in the past 25 years. The time before that was the 2011 season opener against Gonzaga, a 4-3 Gonzaga win in 11 innings. The time before that was the Trevor Bauer v. Tanner Robles pitching duel back in 2010, a 3-1 UCLA win in 16 innings, the other longest Beav game in the last 25 years. I believe that it is the first time in a nine-inning game that Oregon State has only given up four runs, giving up 8+ walks and 10+ hits in at least 25 years.

If this happens in the middle of the season and someone struggles for 5 games, nobody really notices.. Start of the season - that BA is a real big eye sore. I think he'll be fine. Imagine he's pressing, trying to prove himself on the new squad.

Hainline hit the ball hard today, just didn't get any breaks.
Nice to have options though.

When we took that 6-0 lead, I thought we would cruise. In previous years, a 6 run lead was a sure thing. When Texas Tech stormed back scoring 4, it was a new kind of anxiety. lol
Gotta get used to us being able to put up 10 runs.

I haven't seen the games, but it sounds like Hainline's defense has been solid. We know that he can hit the ball even though he is struggling now.
I wouldn't mind seeing Trosky come in for a bit, but I'm not sure that pulling Hainline would help him. I think it must be all psychological and keeping him in shows that we know that he can do it. Besides, with the way this team is hitting, one or two players riding a slump isn't going to slow us down.
That's my thinking, but Mitch is coach. He pulled Turley last year when I would have left him in. Guess I have a soft spot for struggling hitters.

Scary stuff. Wishing him the best. In case anyone is wondering, Brady Trombello was Texas Tech's fourth starter. He threw the Tuesday game against Arlington the day before Oregon State and Texas Tech played. Trombello scattered four hits over four innings with four strikeouts. Trombello picked up the win. Wishing him all of the best moving forward!

Dang! Pitching not doing the job. To many walks. Dorman got cute with pitching. Lattery was dealing. Hainline's error did not help things. Almost got out of it up 6-3. 6-4 after four. I don’t know any facts at all, but I love to conjecture about baseball. I think now that Dorman pulled Lattery because Lattery is on a strict, pitch count rehab. Lattery looked like he hadn’t pitched very much even in practice prior to Surprise. Very rusty, lower velocity, pitches not moving. Against Texas Tech, he was better in those aspects. Move up to the NDSU appearance, and Lattery didn’t pitch. It makes sense that a coach wouldn’t put a rehab guy out there in those miserable conditions. I am thinking that Lattery might be fine, but the rehab and weather might be dictating his appearances.
