But tOSU doesn’t sit on its hands like this OSU does. The fans demand more. Last year, in conference, he was a miserable 5-15. This year only 4 conference wins so far. It’s that downward spiral that kills most coaches, except Tinkle. Oregon State's budget is less than half of Ohio State's now. Ohio State is paying the full $12.8 million buyout to fire Holtmann. It is amazing the standards that you can afford to have with the 15th-largest budget in the country. Columbus is the 14th largest city in the US, too. That helps.
But I think tOSU's decision probably rejuvenated the fan base immediately. And may lead to the team performing better and showing up in the tournament. Or next year.
Instead, we keep the fans away with depressing results. We fulfill an already rampant image of Beavers = Losers. We can't compete for recruits. We can't compete period.
You know, at the beginning of the year, someone posted a poll of how many conference wins the Beavs would get this year. I voted for 4. That's bad for a program and things have to change. But they don't.
One more year of this? Why bother?

Tinkle did amazing things w/ the elite 8 run. And utterly killed the program w/ his mishandling of the new players the very next year. Just killed it. Strictly still employed because he makes too much to fire him. Its pathetic, but true.

No. 2 Purdue plays at Ohio State on Sunday. Tickets are low as $16 are still available, according to ESPN. Doesn't sound as if the fan base is too rejuvenated just yet.

I wouldn’t expect to see a jump in attendance based on coach being fired. Much like we didn’t see a jump in attendance after Beavers beat a top 10 team at home. It was nice to see good crowd last night, though not sure how much Oregon fans impacted that number. By the way, it appears Buckeyes team was rejuvenated — at least for one game.

There were quite a few oregon fans, but that number was mostly impacted by half of Gill being filled with students.

Everyone loves a winner. Case in point women this weekend. Wait, didn’t they lose today? Yes they did to a USC team, that has won 6 straight. I don’t see the men losing by single digits if they lose their top player, but after watching the game last night the lack of rebounding carried over to the women today.

The women lost by 8 today. Injuries are part of the season. Both losses suck. Don’t blame the men’s sucky rebounding for the women’s sucky rebounding.

Everyone loves a winner. Case in point women this weekend. It's true. It's hard to get fired up for a bad program. The mens team is 3-12 in conference play, and dead last in the standings. Not a lot to be excited about.

I expect the game at Cal will be competitive. One hopes. Oregon State's best chance to win a road game in 2023-24.

I expect the game at Cal will be competitive. One hopes. Oregon State's best chance to win a road game in 2023-24. I thought the best chance was with, tied last place @ USC (3-8/9-13) who was on a 6-game losing streak, who we had already clobbered by 16 only to lose by 28? Where Cal is 3-2 in their last 5, and Cal is 4-4 overall at home, one blow out loss to Arizona. Otherwise: 2pt loss vs ASU 4pt win vs Buffs 2pt loss vs UW 6pt win vs WSU 2pt win vs Stanford 6pt win vs USC 1pt loss to UCLA Stanford is 4-3 at home but crushed Arizona with 100 pts, and 99 pts vs USC... scoring 73 or more every home game... averaging 84 per at home. Not sure OSU wins any track meets?? But, since there are only (3) away games left, @ Cal, @ Furd, @ Oregon... and it is a WT team on the road, "best chance" is truly a crap shoot. All three are better offensive teams in Pac12 play. Cal/Furd 2-3 pts worse than OSU in Pac12 defense. All three better rebounding teams than OSU. All three better in NET and Offensive efficiency.... OK... take your pick... OSU can't go "0 fer" on the road in Pac12 play... again can they? At like 1-39/1-26 away from Gill with Cal as the last Pac12 road win (1/22/23)... if you were a betting man? My non-monetary wager will be @ Oregon... rivalry's last conference game, team with 4-5 key injuries/illness/short bench, more innate motivation, and last chance to win a conference roadie.

Actually, attendance was 18,353 which is about 1,000 shy of a sell out. Playing Indiana earlier this month, only 11,157 showed up for the loss. For the Maryland game a couple days later, attendance was 13,471. Of course, you could say that the 5-7 thousand extra fans came for the #2 matchup more than anything. There's probably some truth to that. But I'd say that a good portion of those fans came back hoping to see a change in their beloved Buckeyes that would have come with the firing of the coach. We'll see if the attendance trend continues.
