On the other hand....only 59% of the innings pitched in 2023, return. So.....does the transfer arm* Aiden May (the national writers pick for OSU Friday night starter - tho' I'm not convinced) - plus the pretty darn good incoming Freshman pitching prospects, make up for that? Maybe. *other than May, there are a total of six (6) transfer-in pitchers on the OSU pre-season roster. Aiden May is getting the most attention. Personally, I'm hoping that Kellan Oakes LBCC (with a very good WCL Summer 2023) and/or Bridger Holmes, Feather River JC (14-1 record and 2.92 era), manage to contribute some good innings.

Wow... not sure where they are coming from picking OSU that high??? It's just a poll, but I'd think12-16 would be reasonable seeing who OSU lost and questions on the bump. I think part of it is understanding the quality and competitiveness of the Beaver team year in and year out. That with the excitement around some new players can make a person take notice. I think 7 is respectable and respectful. I hope the team gels quickly and can keep that #7 spot or climb higher.
Won't be long now. January is more than half over.

Hopefully we have some excellent leadership on the team. that's what really made our World Series teams Special was leadership. This is the point that has me a little bit concerned for this year's team. I'm not sure Bazzana is that type of guy, but that is just gut feeling. I'm trying to find a Madrigal, Rutschman, Barney, Canham is this bunch, that can keep the team focused yet loose, and I don't see it yet.

I'm trying to find a Madrigal, Rutschman, Barney, Canham is this bunch, that can keep the team focused yet loose, and I don't see it yet. Here is a gem from the last time period that I vividly remember people wondering where we would find the next Barney and Canham I noticed in tonight's game we did very little bunting if any. Last year we used it very effectively. What gives with this year's team? To over simplify... be bluntly honest? We're not near as good as recent teams in ANY area of the game. People will say the run production is fine... yep vs inferior schedule. Yet not solid offensive baseball when a GS is the only reason you weren't totally outclassed by a 4-19 team with horrendous pitching staff/stats. Lack of bunts normally attempted/executed, poor base running, picks, not advancing runners have been the rule, not the exception so far. The most disappointing, and best quality of the last dozen or so years, mental toughness/focus/taking each game as one and done... is not there. Two league losses is not the end of the world. However, losing to UW and UU is very indicative of this team's failings. I thought 23-7, top two in Pac12 was realistic at the start. Right now we look to be the 20-10 team hoping to host a regional. But... OSU lost a TON from that 56-6... way more than some wanted to believe. Far more than dumb arse pollsters ever see from a distance. Win this series. Head home, scrape together a split with Nevada (not sure who all pitches if BP is used a bunch today and tomorrow??), and win the series at Zona. That will keep OSU in touch with the Pac12 lead and hopefully this team will start looking like BEAVERS. It is a fun thread. cbeavs1 continues the thread by bad-mouthing Kwan's defensive play. By the way, what happened to cbeavs1 ? He disappeared at the height of the pandemic. More garbage from a bunch of posters. mbabeav tries to talk everyone off the ledge. justdamwin responds to the post above by saying that Larnach is the best hitter since Conforto but hits better when he hits behind Madrigal, who missed almost eight weeks (25 games) in 2018. baseba1111 responds to justdamwin to say that Hendrix (he actually says "Henrix," which is also fun) is a better hitter than Larnach. Great thread. The doom and gloom in February and March 2018 after Madrigal's injury and before his return in April are still humorous read-throughs.

I think Bazzana and Smith are two potential leaders for the team. Certainly they will command respect from the younger players. Maybe McDowell too, based on his performance last year. Micah has seen a lot, and if he replicates the leap he took last year, he will be a force to contend with.

Seems like pitching is always the question, even when we have quality pitchers. We just have to see how they all develop, but it will certainly help having a juiced offense to back up our pitchers.
