Straight out of Bellotti's playbook. Score big points with the hometown fans by saying you're not interested in a job you've never even been offered.

It doesn't work that way. The best way for you to stop people from responding to your posts is to quit the board, which I urge you to do. Bully. That was very kindly phrased!

When a commenter elevates Lanning over Coach Smith on a Beaver forum, I get suspicious. Atown's a Beaver. Great. Henry: do me a favor and stop reading my posts and don't respond to them anymore. Thank you in advance. I will help you out. what I said was: "I think nothing currently boils my blood more than the current Duck coach having the integrity we wanted our hometown hero alumni coach to have." I very clearly said I am mad a duck coach is demonstrating the character we (the universal we of OSU fandom) wanted our (the possessive of that universal OSU fandom) coach to have. This one isn't rocket science. It wasn't singing the praises of Lanning, it was lamenting the actions of our previous coach and the relative situations and voicing the frustration of our Rival having a guy we wanted our guy to be. And for the record, I have not one but two degrees from OSU. My dad was a Beaver. my Mom was a beaver. hell they met in the library on campus. My daughter graduates OSU this spring, my other daughter starts at OSU this fall. I am old timer enough to say I was given a cigar by Sarg and smoked it at his tailgater, an high honor if you know what that means. I am not one to lean into tribalism too much. I recognize how destructive it is to society in general. On the one hand, I could not give a s%#t about being called a duck. I don't know you, your opinion is meaningless. On the other hand, one should call out poor behavior when you see it. This was poor behavior dude.

I think the whole Lanning to bama was a straight up publicity stunt. It's smart. Like Henry said above, the fans love it.....also great for recruiting. Well played evil empire, well played

Well played evil empire, well played I think there was natural and expected speculation. Rumors are rumors for a reason. Whether or not there was ever real attempt or a real possibility is debatable. I see absolutely no reason to believe Alabama wouldn't contact his agent. Why not? it would be stupid not to. I can also see how inquires would go no further than that. I wouldn't attribute this to a mastermind plan by Oregon. They are just in a fortunate position to come out looking good.

I am not condoning or condemning either side in this discussion but Beaverology is sort of like me, he read the original message a little too fast and missed some of the nuances of what you were saying. I don't want to be a Proverbs 26:17 type so I'll leave it at that!

Willie Taggart's departure hurt you. Crisco's departure hurt you. Going 0-3 v UW hurt you. Going 2-2 v OSU hurt you. Now the duck fan base is comparing their program to Alabama. The duck fan base has been traumatized. Get some help or therapy. You are completely clueless if you think Atown is an uck fan. Other than "his" copy & paste stuff, usually is.

The buyout is north of $20M, maybe a lot more. That could be a factor, if not a deal killer. Funniest thing I saw this morning: duck fans equating the Alabama job to the Oregon job as a 'lateral move'. I also think Lanning's silence with all the rumors put the ducks thru a horrible night, especially after they've been recently traumatized by Taggart and Crisco leaving. Just another reason why duck nation is so fragile and insecure. Well deserved Karma from all the disproportionate spending and cheating over the last 20 years. If Bama wants him badly enough, that $20M is literally zero barrier. Hell, TA&M paid $77M to make Fischer go "poof." I'm sure Bama has those type of boosters. Related: I recently made this point to some deluded dux fan. The fan wasn't having it; he insisted that Lanning is committed to oregon, and that his buyout makes it so. Upon (im)mature reflection, what I should have argued was that if he was so damned committed, why does he even have a buyout? But missed opportunities to rag on them and all... =====
"Funniest thing I saw this morning: duck fans equating the Alabama job to the Oregon job as a 'lateral move'."HAHAHAHA--They are delusionally whistling past the graveyard. I think Bama is probably looking for someone more experienced, but I'd be less than surprised if they did try to hire him. If he did leave, it would be popcorn worthy watching to see how it spins in ducktown.

I think he is in serious consideration if Sweeney or Kiffin do not want to move. Only deterrent is the buyout. That is zero deterrent if they want him badly enough. JMO

Lanning leaves: Haha, stupid schmucks, you'll never be anything more than a stepping stone program.
Lanning stays: Obviously they didn't even consider him a candidate!

every coach is 'elevated' above Smith. Every assistant coach too, also janitors and librarians and dentists. Do you feel the same way about Mike Riley and Coach Erickson too? It's a sincere question. I know we're all angry and hurt by what CJS did, but he was the favorite son of OSU. I think time will heal things. It was different with Dennis and Mike, long-time coaches who left for the NFL. Neither of them played here either. Riley’s second departure was an opportunity to go to a storied program when a number in our fan base were grousing about him not getting us to the “next level” and calling for his head. The same people were mad that he left, I guess because they would rather fire him than see him able to choose a fresh start (always a weird response in my mind)
