we’re going on Boxing Day. . 2.5 out of 5 stars. It’s a great piece of USA sport history, the book is 100x better. Movie would be better if you didn’t know the final 1936 Olympics result. It might be interesting to note that Oregon State and Washington played in the Western Regional Championship Game in basketball in 1936. The game was held in Seattle, because the Huskies had won the regular season North Championship. Oregon State had to beat the Pacific Coast Champion Stanford on the way to play Washington. Washington beat Oregon State 35-29 in Seattle. The Huskies went on to finish third in the United States Basketball Olympic Trials in New York City and placed one player on the final United States roster. The 1936 Olympics were the first Olympics, wherein basketball was an official Olympic sport. The Nazis did not build a basketball stadium and played the game outside with a very rudimentary ball. Nevertheless, the United States swept through the Olympics to win gold. With the success of the United States Olympic Trials in New York City, the NIT debuted in 1938, also in New York City, and the NCAA Tournament the following year. Five of the players who ultimately comprised one of the two "teams" that made up the United States Olympic Basketball team were five of the best players to have played at UCLA over the previous nine seasons. The other "team" was mostly made up of Midwesterners. Interesting story at a very interesting time in global history.
