When comparing classes my favorite method is average rating on 247. This is expected to be a down year so how does it look?
If we compare to WSU and MWC our 20 athlete class has an average ranking of 85.14. that puts us at the top of this bucket with SDSU being the only team also braking 85. This may still change with additions or losses but no matter we will be in the upper tier of our likely future conference.
When compared to the former P12 we are 11th which is pretty normal. It does appear that every team except Cal has had an uptick or stayed level in average for the T10.
If you compare it to recent classes it is our worst class since 2020 but I think k that would still be either our best or 2nd best class prior to Smith.
Potential big shifts. Losing Durant would likely drop us out of the 85 range, losing Covington would increase our average decently, gaining any transfer athlete (QB please) rated above 86 would put us firmly ahead of any MWC team.
Overall not so bad considering all the potential negatives!

Good analysis... It is very possible that we see an uptick during the "normal" signing period. Still a lot of guys who did not sign and a lot of guys in the portal. With some stability in the coaching staff, some good guys coming in, I am hoping that those with the "wait and see what happens" will come aboard. I think we will also see some surprises in the next round. Coach Bray's presser was good - wants to add to QB, TE and DB along with a sprinkling of other guys here and there. Still a lot of talent out there.

One of them is all but certain to be gone.

247sports site is frustrating to use... You can sort by average, but only the top 50

I'm not that concerned with the rating of the class at this point. This was to be expected with the decommits after JS left. It often takes a year or years to land a prospect. The key for OSU right now is the portal. Fill the positions of need through the portal and get to work on next year's high school class later on.

But, there is evidently a couple of players being offered 6+ figures to transfer and it is likely at least one of them is leaving.

I see maybe three players on the roster that might fit. I've heard that there might be an OL or two that could be leaving after the bowl.

Soon after the traitor left Melvin Jordan made a tweet that said home is where the heart is. Hope I'm reading something into that that isn't there.

And hawkes isn’t rated yet right? That could boost it as well. I think they’ll probably sign around another 10 preps and pull around 5 or so transfers.
I wouldn’t expect anyone on the team is worth 6 figures and I’m not too worried about rumors. What is one more guy that doesn’t want to buy into the program anyways?

Hawkes will up the ranking but drop the average as he won't be rated over 85.

With Anderson added we are now at 85.82 and that's with several players like Johnson unrated still. I'd say it's a fair bet that this is our best non Smith class and I think it ends up top 3 all time. We are a half point better than SDSU and a full point better than WSU or anyone else in the MWC.
