Ok, so we have control of the Pac-12 now.
Would it be in the realm of possibility to invite major west coast teams to be in the reconstituted Pac-12 just for baseball? We have some national clout and pull here, unlike sports like football where only TV ratings matter. We could even be picky.....invite most of the old Pac-8 folks, MAYBE the AZ schools, but leave out Utah (super tempting to leave out the ducks and Huskies too haha). Add on top of this some of the MWC teams that aren't complete garbage, since we'll probably have some football partnerships with them.
Why wouldn't this work? Surely the coaches would be all for more local competition, and there's a precedent for weird Pac-12 membership in other sports like wrestling...

I'm guessing the major conferences have rules that you have to have a certain amount of sports that are in conference so that may be problematic.

Interesting idea except OSU has zero pull/clout vs whatever other conference contracts state. For example I doubt any of the "10" have a choice to opt out for certain sports. I agree the WCC isn't great, but it's no "nail" for the exact reasoning you are on. OSU baseball can schedule a ton of quality opponents, in the WCC or as an independent. But, I think having a conference schedule and title with less quality NC games to have to schedule is a far better path to a consistent top 24 entry to the postseason. Being an independent will be very tough to schedule enough quality teams once their league play begins. OSU can't afford to just have 1 or 2 game midweek series. And, once their conference begins you only have bye weekends to fit in games. How many want to use that to play OSU vs a soft touch?
