Had OSU in his final 5
From the second he stepped foot on the campus of Cascade Christian, college programs started to keep an eye on Austin Maurer
. And as the skilled 7-footer developed his body and his game, the offers started to pour in. The senior big man did his homework with his recruitment, carefully making campus visits and narrowed his choices down to a Top Five. On Sunday afternoon he whittled it down to one, announcing that he would be playing his college basketball at Grand Canyon.
“It just felt like home during my visit,” Maurer said. “I love the school’s support for basketball and for the program, they have a winning culture and strive for more each year. Both me and my family felt a great connection with the whole staff and they plan on using my whole skill set to make me as effective as possible.”

As with so many college programs over the last 30 years, they've invested in their MBB program while OSU has rested on the laurels of Ralph Miller and GP. Every Pac12 program has positioned and distanced itself. I'll always be loyal to OSU, but it's sad to watch.
I'll be rooting for Austin at GCU.

GCU has a very good basketball program in a nice Locale. They support Mbb very well. It is in a TERRIBLE locale. The neighborhoods around that area are infested with crime. The school itself is safe, but there is actual ID checks to get on a gated campus. West Phoenix is better than it was in the 80's and 90's, but it is not a place you want your kid wandering the neighborhoods.

I attended the baseball game there last Spring. There were no I.D. checks.

I attended the baseball game there last Spring. There were no I.D. checks. You're not a student attending and using all the facilities... ID Cards: All GCU students and staff must obtain a personal ID card in order to gain access to campus facilities. Parking Privileges and Vehicle Decals: Students, faculty and staff are required to have a parking decal to park on campus. Campus traffic laws are the same as off campus. Visitor Access: All visitors must check in at the entrance gates to campus, which are staffed by security personnel. The main gates are open 24/7 to vehicular and pedestrian traffic while all other gates close at 6 p.m.

Really? Grand Canyon would have been an NAIA team back then. And even an in-state legacy is a no go!? He is going from a private Christian high school to a private Christian college and I can't find any listings saying he even had an offer from OSU. I don't consider this much of a shock.

Ah, I see now.... I mistakenly thought when you said "The school itself is safe, but there is (sic) actual ID checks to get on a gated campus.", that you meant "there is (sic) actual ID checks to get ON a gated campus."
Please forgive me, Oh Exalted One.

Interestingly enough, GCU is in the news today. Apparently they've been found/accused of overcharging tuition. Not sure how that works.

I was talking about the warm weather which many 18-22 year olds love.

The practice center, upgraded coliseum seating bowl and amenities, and locker room just built themselves, with no investment? The old "lack of investment" card is an urban myth.
