Oregon's good. But I had to laugh at Lanning calling CU a "team that goes for clicks" and "Hollywood." There are very few programs that are more "look at me, look at me" than the Ducks. Someone from Oregon playing the "us against the world" card is outright ridiculous. Well, Colorado is probably the one team that he could say that against. Haven't seen the huge posters for Shedur yet.

Only reason they were ranked was because of the hype around Sanders. If the head coach would have been anyone else there would have been cautious optimism. A lot of people jumped on the bandwagon because it was Sanders as head coach. Now that isn't to say they won't win games going forward but expectations after the first three games was out of control.

I can't say I was sorry to see Colorado get thumped (though I would have preferred another team do the thumping), but you have to give it to Sanders. He created a big buzz, he put fannies in the seats and his team on all the network shows - and he's got every recruit in the country aware of Colorado football. Before Deion, Colorado would have been about as well known to them as Colorado School of Mines football.

I think he will be able to continue to recruit at a high level, and be a great motivator for his team. As long as he has a great supporting coaching staff.......which isn't guaranteed......he will keep moving this program to a higher level. His biggest challenge may be keeping high level assistants around as they get hired away. But, if the program is healthy, and high profile, he should be able to replace those guys with good candidates. I was skeptical leading into the season, but I think he's got a formula for sustained success.

But CU doesn't control that, that's on the TV networks and CU certainly isn't going to discourage positive publicity. Oregon does control where or if it puts up posters.

I was skeptical leading into the season, but I think he's got a formula for sustained success. Well, he doesn't have a former team to lend him (51) players to come via the transfer portal (no, not all 51 came from there). Colorado's overall ranking was for (72) players. Other than (1) 5* their recruits were not significantly better than OSU's. Prime is probably going to lose players to the portal. Far more than he'll gain this time around. He can't keep all those new bodies happy as portal players tend to be a little more impatient than those true Frosh types. I would not be surprised for him to again ask a large number of players to leave and try to get a large portal number again. I have zero confidence Prime will make the buffs much more than media click bait. Increasing wins from (1) to a reasonable (5) is much easier than going from (5) to (8-9). The hype is just that until Prime actually does something but talk.

He’s going to be able to get skill guys, but without some solid linemen and LB’s, they will have trouble winning consistently.

All the Colorado/Sanders crapola is a great example of just how the national sports media (press+broadcast) is far moe interested in creating a hollow but hypersensational and popular story than it is with reporting the really newsworthy. And these are the same geniuses that are destroying college football in order to transform it into the junior NFL.
Also, with his stupid cowboy hat, sunglasses, and endless childish bravado, Sanders has become a caricature of himself. Too bad for him that he's too self-consumed to realize it.

They have won in large part due to Hunter and Sheduer. They're not strong up front yet so losing a player like Hunter who can turn a catch into 6 at any time and place on the field (on both sides of the ball) is a bigger loss for them than a team who's strong up front. I've not seen one mention in this thread CU was without Hunter. CU at full strength can compete with a lot of teams. Minus a player like Hunter who plays both ways and you see a big drop off.

Hunter is a very good player, but even with him, that would have been a blow out. At best, he could have accounted for 1 more score.

Did anyone really believe CU worthy of a #19 ranking? They were 3 TD underdogs to the #10 team. How often can anyone remember that much of a point spread between a #10 team and a @19 team? Once actual money was on the line true feelings came out. Thanks to the media hype, this was the most watched game on TV. And the team they were hyping was down 42 zip in the 3rd qtr! I couldn't stand to watch the game all the way through it was so one sided. I can't imagine anyone staying with it other than duck fans. Media hype was exposed in a big, and rather ugly, way.
