Vegas gets hit harder when the tourist $$ dry up, and is rewarded whe money is loose, any tourist destination has the same issue, but Vegas takes a double whammy when the convention/conference $$ dry up.

From what I'm seeing, Fresno is in the 55th ranked TV market, not big but not tiny. If they do well and draw fans from the entire Central Valley that market sizes jumps substantially. As it is, FSU already had a higher average viewership than SDSU medium.com/run-it-back-with-zach/which-college-football-programs-were-the-most-watched-in-2022-94eca4f6acbdMy main goal is to keep California eyeballs. We've now got the mountain states somewhat locked in (assuming the CSU scenario comes to fruition and others don't leave). Unfortunately the major power schools in Texas are already committed. SMU I think is a good idea, I'd like to have a Houston school as well, but Tulane has shown interest and would be a good backup. I think both FSU's and SDSU's viewership would rise dramatically (not enough to "replace" the loss of USC and UCLA) with a move to the Pac 12/14/16. BSU had reasonable viewing numbers, but they kinda have their region locked up and there probably isn't as much upside potential, so that's why I left them out. I'd welcome an Oklahoma State or a Tulsa type school(a big city school anyways, the university itself is pretty small). I don't think we'll ever poach a Big 10 school. I'd be thrilled if we could get a couple east coast teams to commit to coming this way (much rater see that than having Pac12 teams go there), but we're kind of running low on bigger market relatively successful football schools that gave expressed interest or aren't locked into long term agreements. I read somewhere where Cal and Stanford would veto Fresno, but now you know desparate times. Stanford vetoing Texas looks like brilliant foresight now. Fresno is roughly 200 miles from Los Angeles. While FSU does a very good job of marketing to the whole San Joaquin Valley, all you pick up, tv wise, is Bakersfield, Modesto, and Stockton (maybe), and Modesto and Stockton are already there with Cal and Stanford. I lived in the Los Angeles area for many years, and there is no interest in Fresno State there. San Diego State isn't going to get you much in LA, but it would be more than Fresno would, and you do get the whole San Diego market - not LA, but not chopped liver by any means. In any event, when it's all said and done, UCLA and USC have killed the conference that nurtured them for 100 years. Fingers can (justifiably) be pointed at those who run the conference and the failure that is the PAC 12 Network. But UCLA and USC represented 1/6 of the votes, and so deserve 1/6 of the blame for the state of the conference at the time they left. Instead of being a part of the solution, they opted to become the major part of the problem. Rot in Hell.

It's fascinating that we Beaver fans are judging the quality of potential newcomers by their market share. Hmmm. What % of the market does Corvallis bring?
Fresno State is fine. San Diego is fine. Boise State needs more sports, but they're fine.
These teams are ready to join the Power 5 and often are a much of a contender as we are. Let's do this. Add UNLV. And a couple from Texas and the conference will be strong--at least as strong as the Big 12.

San Diego St, Colorado St and SMU are the only ones they are going to consider unless the presidents do a 180 on the academic prestige required to join the conference. No chance for UNLV, Boise or Fresno unless they throw that requirement out the window.

If the Presidents of those 3 schools are involved, and they most certainly would be, the league could probably justify "probationary" addition to the conference at a lower cut on evidence of making strides towards academic conditions representative of the league's existing schools. Ya just never know, some may have plans in the works to improve their universities already n this could be the push they need.

UNLV is a Tier 1 research university, which is the main criterion the Pac looks for.
