Bauer and Cole. Whenever I think of them I'm impressed.
beaver1989 Bauer and Cole were actually two years before.
Oregon State won consecutive Pac-10 Championships in 2005 and 2006. The Devils then won the next four before going on probation. Without cheating Arizona State in the mix (and with Bauer and Cole), UCLA won three consecutive Pac-10/12 Conference Championships from 2010-2012.
Oregon State won the series against UCLA but lost the opener. Adam Plutko outdueled Matt Boyd. Plutko did not allow a ball to land in the outfield grass until the third time through the order and that was the only ball to see the outfield grass into the eighth. Boyd gave up five hits. Unfortunately, there was a single and double in the fourth, a homer in the fifth, and two errors around a base hit in the seventh to hand Boyd his first loss of the year, and a tough luck one at that.
Andrew Moore pitched a gem the next day (with help from Max Engelbrekt and Scott Schultz) for a 5-0 win against Nick Vander Tuig. Ben Wetzler then pitched a third gem the day after that (with help from Taylor Starr and Scott Schultz) for a 5-2 win.
Oregon State won the series against UCLA and the all-important series with Oregon to win the Pac-12 by two games. (Had the Ducks won the series against the Beavs or the Bruins swept the Beavs, they would have been Pac-12 Champions in 2013.)
Oregon, Oregon State, and UCLA all hosted regionals. The Beavs and Bruins swept through their Regionals, while Oregon got upset by Rice 1-0 after foolishly throwing Jake Reed against South Dakota State. Oregon State hosted the Corvallis Super Regional against Kansas State, while UCLA was shipped to the Fullerton Super Regional. Both teams took Game One into extras with UCLA winning 5-3 and Oregon State losing 6-2. The Bruins punched their ticket to Omaha on Saturday. The Beavers, on the other hand, crushed the Wildcats on Sunday but needed to pull Boyd out of the bullpen on one days' rest to finish off Kansas State, which messed up Oregon State's rotation into Omaha.
UCLA threw Plutko against #4 LSU. Plutko only gave up a solo shot to left in the fifth. The Bruins were able to cobble together an unearned run in the sixth and eighth for the win. Nola's loss to UCLA was his only loss in 2013.
UCLA then came back against NC State, which had upset #1 North Carolina in Game One, to win 2-1. Vander Tuig went seven, only allowing one run.
UCLA then defeated a gassed North Carolina to advance the Championship Series.
Oregon State, on the other hand, finished a foot short from winning Game One against Mississippi State. In Oregon State's second try against Mississippi State Moore threw a great 4.2 innings, only allowing one run on an infield single in the fourth. Moore looked like he might get out of the fifth unscathed, but Adam Frazier in his third hit a ball into the hole on the right side that was just too far away for a diving Andy Peterson to catch up. The next hitter hit one up the middle, and Hunter Renfroe hit the ball just over Michael Conforto's glove and into the bullpen in left for a 4-0 lead that Mississippi State, with their bullpen would not relinquish.
In the Championship Series, Plutko only allowed one run and Vander Tuig did not allow any in a UCLA sweep of Mississippi State.
