Bonehead me, I forgot to mention the other big event - the Discus throw with Jade Whitfield. There is a great possibility of points there! If you've seen videos of her throwing, you have to be impressed with how quick and smooth her technique is. I'm pretty confident she's going to qualify for the National meet, but I still get a little nervous as a long-time Beaver fan always does.

Both Mitchell and Fetherstonhaugh have their best chance of finishing high or winning by concentrating on one event. The 1500 is typically loaded. It's the distance event with the most notoriety. Katelyn Tuohy from NCState is running the 5000 and 1500. She set the national high school record in the 5 in 2018, 15:37. She could go sub 15 minutes now if in the right race. I don't think any collegiate runner can touch her right now. It's a bit of a longshot but Grace and Kaylee could go 1,2 or 2,1 in the steeple.

Sacramento weather today. High of 79 degrees. Not ideal for distance running but not oppressively hot either.

Grace wins her heat 9:38.93! Looked powerful bringing it home, relaxed after the finish. Both Beavs qualifying for nationals.

Grace wins her heat 9:38.93! Looked powerful bringing it home, relaxed after the finish. Interesting comparing Kaylee and Grace’s hurdling technique. Kaylee much more fluid over the barriers, never chopping her approach steps. Grace less smooth but so powerful and composed between the barriers. She seems to have a preconceived race plan (pace, when she makes her move) to win and then executes it like clockwork.

Grace and Kaylee end up with the 2nd and 3rd best times. Heat 3 winner from Cal Baptist runs a monster 9:26.88, fastest time of the season so far.

Coming into this weekend Grace and Kaylee recorded the 2nd and 4th best times nationally. Cal Baptist gal was number 1 and she dropped that SB time today by 9 seconds.
It’ll be fascinating to see how fast Grace can go when she has to push it all the way home. She won Pac-12 and Regionals pulling away from the field both times with > 1000m to go.

The CBU runner had a really fast finish. Pretty great runner! Looking forward to the championship and everyone getting pushed to their limits. We saw Grace pushed earlier this year in the 5K and her record time in that. Kaylee has a shot at it too. Either way, we could have 3 scoring Beavs in the National meet!
