Last night, there was some griping when Hutchinson was pulled. TylerM has been very effective, and there were 3 left handed batters coming up in a row. The change made perfect sense to me. A righty submariner against 3 tough lefties. Make the change. Traditionally, the righty slinger has poorer splits against lefties by a fair margin. However, as noted in the linked study from MLB IN 2021, the righty slingers on average had better splits against lefty hitters than righty hitters. The authors noted that this was an oddity. Anyway, the article: baseballcloud.com/2021/07/01/sidearm-pitchers-with-reverse-splits-this-year/The way it looked to me, both Dorman and Hutch were on the same page when he was pulled out. I don't know what that page says, but Hutch wasn't upset with the decision. I suppose he knew in advance that Dorman wanted him to pitch X amount and he reached that successfully.
I think the foul ball home run deflated the Beavs, and the down time with the video review affected Mejia.

Edit... as "high 2 or..." was not what my fat fingers after a couple ritas meant! “Ritas” are notorious for causing inflammation….😁 I'm fairly certain Rita is good friends with Natty.

True. But, even with the recent resurgence OSU is still last in conference BA, and now 4th in pitching ERA... getting smoked by a UCLA lineup hitting a few points higher. This team has/is just too inconsistent to be a viable top 16 seed. IMHO their only road to host is winning the Pac12 tourney. A lot of the "disappointment" on here seems based on unrealistic expectations. The only reason this team is approaching 40 wins, the ridiculously weak NC. But, for this type of team, again IMHO a #22-34 type overall seed, it allowed a post season appearance with a winning Pac12 record. Considering the key players OSU lost, the relative inexperience of many returners, coupled with some injuries... making the post season as a high 3 or mid/low 2 seed seemed like a solid season. Then take it from there. After a 1-5 start in conference where making the tournament was in question. I'll take a 2 seed without any complaints. We haven't had very much success in advancing to a Super Regional when we don't host a Regional, from a historical perspective.(2007 come to mind, but I don't recall any others) Canham was a game away in 2021 at the Fort Worth Regional. It won't be easy but all 16 Regional hosts aren't advancing to the Supers. "The game of baseball doesn't work that way." Since they went to the 64-team Tournament, Oregon State has only won a non-Corvallis Regional in 2007. 2021 was the closest that Oregon State has ever been to winning a Regional otherwise. 2007, 2014, and 2021 were the three regionals, where Oregon State came out of the losers' bracket to force a Championship Game. I personally like the seven-year split on those three seasons. I hate the 2014 and 2021 results. 2009 and 2012 were the two closest behind that. In each season, Oregon State came back from a crushing loss to the Regional Host and then lost a squeaker to miss out in forcing a Championship Game. 2010 and 2015 were the other two non-Corvallis Regionals. 2010 was awful. The less said the better. Oregon State was very close in 2015, because Dallas Baptist got upset against Virginia Commonwealth. All Oregon State had to do was beat Virginia Commonwealth and then one of two against the Dallas Baptist-Virginia Commonwealth to advance to the Coral Gables Super Regional. Instead, the storms that Oregon State often brings into the postseason, which usually works to help Oregon State (2007 and 2018), hurt Oregon State. And Rasmussen pitched the second-worst game in his Oregon State career.
