What was the challenge? They never said on TV. It was regarding Forrester touching 1st before the celebration. I thought it over Bazzana not touching second.

Games like that are hard on the blood pressure. Question. Should OSU have walked Corona in the top of 9th? Sure, bases would have been loaded but you make someone else beat you. Not the guy who had already hit 2 long HR's. Closers are pitchers who should get anyone out, no matter who is batting.

It was regarding Forrester touching 1st before the celebration. I thought it over Bazzana not touching second. They tried to say Bazz didn't touch second, and tried to get the ump to give them a force out, a la the NY Giants-Chicago Cubs debacle at the Polo Grounds in 1908, commonly known as "Merkle's boner." Bazz touched second, then joined the celebration, the ump was on it and called him safe when the ASU player stepped on second. He held onto the ball for about five minutes after the game before finally spiking it in disgust. Before the Merkle game, it was commonly accepted for a player not to touch second (or third, if applicable) on a walk-off hit with a force play in effect. The Giants acknowledged Merkle didn't touch second, they were just mad because the force had not been enforced to that point in baseball history, and that it wasn't even certain the ball the Cubs used to apply the force was the same ball Merkle hit. www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/Merkle_Bonehead_Play

Thank goodness Baz touched 2nd. I can't understand how a guy who is on the path to being an early first round draft pick makes a lot of "little league" mistakes.

Seems strange to me to label it a bonehead play when Merkle simply did what was commonly accepted at the time.

None of his teammates ever blamed him. In fact, the guy who hit the single later said he'd wished he'd struck out because of all the grief Merkle got for the rest of his life.
Merkle played on six World Series teams. Each one lost.
Every time you go to the ballpark you see something new. Like today, can't remember the Beavers scoring eight runs in their last two at-bats to win a game.

Fred Merkle, Firpo Marberry, Jim Konstanty, Joe Page and Elroy Face have all been mentioned on OSU baseball posts in the last couple days.
What in the wide, wide world of Hector Lopez is going on here?
Still amazed at today's game. Guerra had a great at-bat to start the ninth. You could hear the crowd starting to buzz and feel the vibe growing after he got on.

Gonna cap off a great day by continuing to re-read "Moneyball." Just finished an outstanding bio of Lou Gehrig, "Luckiest Man."
The Skrimmer is all-in on baseball.

This 3-game series was top notch and a fabulous example of how great baseball can be. Hopefully, a few young Beaver fans caught the bug.

I watched the replay and they mentioned Arizona's players did not participate in the customary post-series handshake line. Coaches did but not the team. Interesting. They had plenty of time, as they weren't flying back until today.
