Catcher Teagan Scott (South Salem HS) - The Beaver '26 commit has gotten off to a fast start his first year of high school competition, and last week was a sample of things to come. He finished the week 6-for-9 with eight RBIs, eight runs scored, and an eye-opening 1,126 OPS.
Pitcher Grady Saunders (Thurston) - Another '26 Oregon State commit was electric on the mound this past Saturday against Ashland. He worked into the 7th inning, allowing just one earned run and punching out 11 opposing hitters with a lively fast ball. His final line was 6 2/3 IP, 11 Ks, 4 H, 1 BB, 1 ER.
The Beavers have 5 commits in their impressive 2026 recruiting class.

Thanks for the updates like these Chinmusic.
Question.... do we have any other top shelf catchers coming before Teagan Scott in 2026?

Thanks for the updates like these Chinmusic. Question.... do we have any other top shelf catchers coming before Teagan Scott in 2026? Ryan VandenBrink, 2024 from West Linn, looks really, really good to me. Big kid, nice swing, looks like a really solid receiver. I don't remember where he is nationally. Top 300 or so? Underrated at 300. Evidence.

Sure, I show five catchers committed through 2026 and a sixth if we decide to play him there. The Beavs have always recruited the position well and from my perspective are continuing with that success. Take a look.
2023: The Beavers are bringing in two catchers this fall. Evan Gustafson is 6-2, 197 and an All State Catcher from Eau Claire, WI.- Altoona HS. Evan is a LH batter that hits for average with hard hit line drives and emerging HR power. Solid defensive skills give him a complete game. He's the #1 ranked catcher in Wisconsin and #8 overall prospect in the state. Evan plays summer ball for the GBR Rays and Cincinnati Reds Scout team.
The second catcher in '23 is Anthony Marnell IV from Las Vegas, NV. - Bishop Gorman HS. Anthony is 6-2, 192 and is recognized for his advanced defensive skills, elite POP time and strong arm. Marnell is a switch hitter with a smooth stroke and is ranked the #1 catcher in Nevada and the #8 overall ranking. Ironically, the same high rankings as Gustafson. BG is nationally ranked and has been a perennial Top-10 team nationally for several years. Anthony plays summer ball for LVR-Red
2024: Ryan Vandenbrink is 6-1, 215 and plays at West Linn HS. Highly touted since his 8th grade year, Ryan is Oregon's best catcher and best overall prospect - rated #1 in both! Ryan is solid defensively, does everything well and has caught a series of elite pitchers at WLHS and in travel team baseball. Ryan is a middle of the order hitter with power. Has a strong but compact swing that generates bat speed. Heavily recruited but committed to OSU his freshman year. Bright future. Vandenbrink plays summer ball for Gunderson Baseball.
2025: Mark Wiepert is 6-1 and 181 and plays at Sherwood HS. Mark is ranked the #2 overall prospect in Oregon. Mark divides his time between 3B and C but back-stopping is his primary at this point. Good reviews offensively and defensively. Very athletic with developing power. Plays summer ball for Baum Bats NW.
The other potential catcher is Xavier Neyens, OSU's super-recruit from Mt. Vernon.WA. HS. Neyens can play all 9 positions on the diamond and excels where ever he plays. He's hit 92 mph on the Stalker. He catches but most scouts are projecting him at a corner infield spot. I think he will play where you need him to play. Xavier has been ranked as high as the 8th best prospect in the country, so we may never see him on campus - we shall see.

We need to speed up Ryan's HR trot - it took almost a half minute. Can't have your fans dozing off while you touch'em all.

Thanks for the updates Chin... gotta add a new catcher every year.. just like a QB as the good ones will only get to play 3 years here.
Appreciate the details and I eagerly await to see the next group of catchers and the impact they will make.

May 11 update.
Saunders is having a standout freshman year at Thurston - at bat and on the bump.
Scott is playing like a Senior - hitting, catching and leading. ' Good Lord!
