No such thing as “pac 12” refs. I noticed the CU announcers also called them “Pac-12” refs. Thank you, they have been taking over games and many noticed this also the hole NCAA tourney and made similar comments. Their referee style is so persistent that the game really becomes all about them. Take the game away from the kids. Stanfords last game was like that. The physically in that game was soft football against Stanford. I’m afraid for UCLA if they draw that crew. One man’s opinion.

Just got done watching ND vs Maryland. I don't know what conference the refs were from, but that game was as unwatchable as any that Missy Barlow or a Pac12 crew has ever been involved with.
"Letting them play". That phrase has come to define the way the game is called now, and predictably the officiating is NOT up to it. If I had a nickel for every time a player gets trapped 30' from the basket and the defense is hacking away at her arms without a call until the ref can finally blow the whistle and declare a jump ball, I would be able to buy Phil Knight out.
Maybe the worst dynamic I see right now is how if a player is driving to the basket all they have to do is throw their body into their defender (who usually has position), or just flail their arms and body and it draws a foul way too easily. At the same time, it blows my mind how many times a big can get the ball at point-blank range from a set position, and the defense is allowed to bang, and hack at them WHILE they are shooting without hardly any calls.
That dynamic pretty much defined most of the games I watched this year vs our team. Teams would "speed up" our backcourt with frenetic defense, get away with a a bunch of bumping and hacking because the officiating simply can't handle it, and to top it off even when we would work the ball down low to Beers and she had a lay-in the defense was allowed to bang the sheet out of her because she's not a waif and can handle the physicality to an extent. Meanwhile, with our slow-down game style, the exact opposite would be true for our players. All kinds of touch fouls away from the basket, and lot's of fouls in the lane just for trying to maintain defensive position against players who are creating the body contact themselves.
Basically, if this is the way the game is headed, then I have a hard time seeing how Rueck's slow-it-down philosophy really works going forward. Teams that speed the game up to a fever pace, and go a million miles and hour all the time are being rewarded by the officiating because it simply can't keep up.

NO, they are independent contractors that work in many different conferences. But, they are regionally based, correct? Pac12 refs also work other west coast leagues, but it's not like they are traveling refs all over the country. So, "Pac12 refs" really just means "west coast refs". Right?

MWC, WCC, WAC, Big Sky, etc.
