It certainly explains the loss of her shooting touch. Successful jump shots require healthy legs ... at least in non-wheelies. Agree - and it can cause mental struggles as well, because you know you need to compensate. Her shots inside the key were often really flat - no touch and all arm motion.

MCL repair is really good news all things considered. Recovery timeline should have her ready to play even on the Italy tour.

I have a friend who stayed at Holiday Inn last night. He's sure that's a Tommy John surgery.

That sure looks like an ACL surgery, having seen one up close and personal. You can see the hose and blue bag for the icing machine that helps keep down the swelling. Most likely not; nobody is going to play on an injured ACL. I think you can play with a damaged MCL or an injured meniscus.

Most likely not; nobody is going to play on an injured ACL. I think you can play with a damaged MCL or an injured meniscus. John Elway played almost his entire NFL career with a torn left ACL. Not advisable, but possible. There are also varying stages to a torn ACL. It is possible she had partially torn it, and was able to play, then finally tore it altogether. I am glad to see that wasn't the case. The huge black brace is identical to that used following ACL surgery. As you recover, some of the brace is trimmed off and it becomes less bulky. The blue bag on the knee is connected to what is essentially a portable cooler that keeps the area cold and reduces the pain and swelling. in-thinair.com/2015/08/26/john-elway-played-entire-football-career-with-no-left-acl/There is also a school that does not advocate reconstructive knee surgery for every patient. Some orthopedics believe strengthening the muscles around the knee is enough for many patients to get by, without invasive surgery. Had a great conversation on this topic once on a plane flight, sitting next to an orthopedic surgeon from Stanford. He played football there and remembered Parker Stadium's old Astrocrete surface. My niece is having her third ACL surgery next month. She's tougher than I ever was.

Talia used kt tape but no brace. So you are saying that the only surgery that a person would wear a big black brace after is an acl? Never used after mcl surgery? Our resident insider says it was mcl, he has proven to have access to information that a regular fan does not. He has also shown to be correct about what he says.

No I said, and I quote, "The huge black brace is identical to that used following ACL surgery." Both are surgeries requiring the knee to be stablized afterward. So it figures they would use an identical brace.

That sure looks like an ACL surgery, having seen one up close and personal. You can see the hose and blue bag for the icing machine that helps keep down the swelling. You are insisting that it is acl surgery based on a big black brace/splint and a blue ice set up. Give it up, even a partially torn acl will side line a college basketball player. A lot easier and less traumatic to repair a partial tear than a complete tear. A mcl is much more likely and then the confirmation from a person who obviously has inside information tells me it is not an acl.

IMHO, anything beyond sending Talia our best wishes for a quick and complete recovery, is pointless (the nicest term I can find for it).
Yes, I know this is a public message board and people are going to say what they want - so guess what, I just did.
No offense intended.

If our reputable source said it's an MCL tear, then I'm good with it. But take it from someone who knows, the photo of her in the huge brace looks exactly like someone who just had ACL surgery looks. Which is what I said: "That sure looks like an ACL surgery."

Werebeaver, I may not agree with everything, no make that I don't lol, but on this you are one hundred percent. She has all my wishes and the hope the doctor did an outstanding job. What we know is Tailia will work her butt off to rehab.

8 weeks recovery vs 9 to 18 months is very good news. Makes sense that she could play at all with it and that she wasn't on crutches. Thanks for the information beav74. Can anyone assure me this is a short recovery? I've read of MCL surgeries taking as much as 9-12 months in some cases. Obviously, nobody here knows how the degree of damage, but should we have any concerns that she won't be ready come November?
