So, fun facts:
There are 351 NCAA member institutions that sponsor Division I Women's Basketball teams, with 348 teams
This year on the last day to transfer and play immediately, there are 308 D1 schools with at least one transfer, last year at the end there were 341
Pac-12, 36 total to-date, last year 51 at the end.

So with the portal officially closed as of May 11th for new entries I pose the following questions to those here that follow it closely.
Who are the top five players left? Are there any quality players left that could substantially impact a team as starters?

justwomenssports.com/reads/ncaa-womens-basketball-transfer-portal-winners-losers-lsu-ucla/This article lists some winners and losers this portal season. Lists UCLA and Colorado as winners, Arizona and Oregon as losers. My thoughts: - Oregon is the clear biggest loser as it stands, bringing in no one and losing Pao Pao and Rogers. - Stanford is also a loser IMO. They’re losing Betts, Nivar, and Emma-Nnopu. - USC brings in some nice Ivy League players. I’d consider them winners probably. - Arizona is still a loser probably, but not as big as if they lost Martinez and Gilbert. Their additions seem decent, but not sure they move the needle a ton. - Cal is an interesting one. They lose Curry and Lutje-Schipolt, but bring in some talent. Oregon and Arizona aren’t bringing in the caliber of transfers they had been. We’ll see how they close it out.

Barnes needs to get at least 3 players just to be able to play. Even then they had better not have any injuries.
I'm not sure what is going on with tsdtr and gravy. Losing both point guards definitely hurts. Another coaching staff that didn't look like they were having fun.
Overall, this year really shows that the successful programs are going to win in the portal

They have five on the roster, two incoming frosh, three transfers, and a JUCO I believe. That’s 11, so 1-2 more and they’ll have a solid roster.

I heard Graves was put on some sort of official warm seat notice by their athletic department and if he has another year like he had he is gone. I have not been able to find anything on it. So I would think we would want him to stay. I wonder if Ruck gets any of the same warm seat notices from his bosses and should he? Probably a better discussion in another thread.

Utah grad-transfer Kelsey Rees seems like a possibility for OSU. At 6-5 she’ll add some depth inside.

As always...good eye, I forgot about her on the transfer list and am a bit surprised she is still available. Nothing spectacular about her game but a solid player. Her stats really fell off from 20-21. utahutes.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/kelsey-rees/13310

Basically just played her when Pili got in foul trouble. She would be a great addition, to play in a similar role behind Beers. There is a lot of upside with Rees, plus she has Pac-12 experience. More depth would be great.

Any reason to think that Rees and OSU have a connection brewing? beaverwbb fan says she is a "possibility" - I wonder if there is anything more to it....
Common sense suggests that Rueck is looking for someone with Rees' size and experience to help out the Bigs. But right now the range of options looks pretty slim...
I find myself hoping (without any evidence whatsoever) that Rueck thinks he's uncovered in a real gem in one of the comparative unknowns he has brought in to fill next year's roster. So, I'm going with that idea! It's more comforting than the any of the alternatives I can currently see!!🏀 GO BEAVS!!

Adding Maty Wilke strengthens their solid group of guards/wings. Maty adds good scoring ability and 3pt shooting. Losing a couple with size, Rees and McFarland could hurt them in the end though. I'm still going with Utah as a winner in the portal.

Every team will have surprise contributions and disappointment. As of now I don't see how any but the extremely biased orange goggled folks see OSU as a "winner" this off-season?? Will they finish better than 11th? I certainly hope so. Will they win games they're not supposed to... and visa versa? I'm sure of it... it's just what happens. However, all other developments being fairly equal, OSU doesn't appear ready to break into the top 6-7 teams. I just don't see the necessary help to Tamia and Reagan. Even AB had great success but on very limited attempts (like 1/3 of Jump's). She'll now be a known quantity, but a healthy TVO will help her too.

I think only a big jump in Timea’s game, especially as a defensive stopper, gives this team a chance at top 6. She was the opposite of that last year though, especially as a team defender, so my glasses aren’t orange enough to believe that will happen.

The portal thread seems an odd place to discuss this. But Timea is a good man-to-man defender. Her problem, and the reason she didn't play more than she did, is that she hadn't a clue on how to play the zone. And since SR was using the zone mostly this put a real crimp in her playing time. I think with the off season and the time to play it out in Italy will get her up to snuff and Beers and Gardiner will be a top duo, possibly the best.
