Assuming all the freshies stay, there is still a huge need to obtain at least two players from portal. Beavs need another big (4 or 5) to spell Reagan and Timea plus a PG. Yes, we have two potential PGs coming in next season in Deven and Kennedie, but neither has college experience. Also, although Adlee came on at end of season (which was terrific) I think Lily also has great potential once she settles down.

. Osu doesn't necessarily need a point guard per se imo. I just think this group needs more experience facing pressure full court and not turning the ball over. Take care of the ball and run the offense. I respectfully agree to disagree with the above statement from a very knowledgeable Beaver Fan!
I would amend his statement to say "OSu doesn't necessarily need a point guard per se to be an average or slightly better than average PAC12 team next year assuming we have no losses through the portal".
My point is that SR as outstanding a Coach as he is, appears to have a "total blind spot/denial mentality" about exactly what is required in terms of a point guard at this point in the PAC12 and for competing on a top 20 level.
I will not disagree that the way he utilized his best off guard to become "the point guard" worked in the past.
I do not believe it has been working for the past two years nor will it work in the future.
It will be extremely unfortunate if, due to the lack of a quality point guard, the tremendous potential of this current roster is not realized.
Go Beavs!

I will respectfully disagree. Osu tried to get elite point guards in the past when osu was very good. Jordin Canada,Kiana Williams, and I would call her a combo guard in Ionescu and were in the final three on all three players. Ionescu averaged 9-10 assists her last year. You don't think Scott realized what one of those point guards could do for his team? It's just that the competition in Ucla,Stanford and uo was elite. All coaches recognize the need for a point guard, but the point guards like when I was young are more combo guards. The Phil fords,Magic Johnson's,Etc. The pass first kind of player.

Thanks for your response.
Assuming the current roster stays intact and both the new freshman arrive I would appreciate your rating (1 being the best, 2 next best, etc.) the players on next years team as possible quality point guards.
As far as I am concerned if you want to stretch it out you can even include players that are not guards (who knows maybe Raegan may be the next Nicola Yokic (sp?).
Thank you!

I just think the true point guards like I saw in my youth, the pass first guards are now more combo guards. Would you call McWilliams, pivec,Goodman,Weise or Weisner a true point guard? I just think you can win with two combo guards. I know some think Scott doesn't value point guards. Scott learned basketball under Ralph Miller and his staff. I don't remember osu having many, what I would call pass first guards...Blume,Radford,Connor,Rocky Smith,Gary Payton, etc. They could all score and distribute... I think osu needs to first and foremost retain TVO,Beers,Gardner,Blacklock, and Hansforth adding the two in state frosh who I think can be solid role players. Just my opinionYour opinions are well thought out and it's nice to have back and forth conversations about osu WBB ,

I'm sure his dad shaped his basketball philosophies at an earlier age than his time at the Miller camp.

Mostly run by his assistants.

Any possibility Jelena stays? I realize she did senior day but you never know. She has left it open, wanted to do senior day in case she decides to leave. So yes there is a possibility that she stays. It would be nice if she did. She keeps getting better so it's not like there is nothing left for her to learn.

There are, of course, many factors that could be in play here as to whether she stays.. Maybe she has had enough of school and/or college basketball or both!
However, given all the work she has put in so far one or two more years of similar increased improvement would I think position her to make a good living playing pro ball in Europe. Also she would be able to get a Master's Degree from OSU in a field of her choosing.
She is an intriguing player. There have been more and more glimpses of improvement showing!
Go Beavs!

I believe the portal officially opens March 14th. Since so many transferred the last couple years, I actually expect the number in the portal may be down a little this year as many have already used their free year. There will be plenty of players available though.
I don't know of any interesting looking PG's out there yet, but there are a couple front court players that will interest teams. 6'4" Lilly Stoddard, recruiting class of 2022, who chose Purdue, and was offered by teams such as Iowa, Arizona St, Washington, Colorado, Minnesota, and more, will be available. Another young front court player currently available is 6'4" Amauri Williams who was dismissed from Vanderbilt earlier this season. I’m not sure about the circumstances surrounding her dismissal.
An interesting note for Beaver fans, Savannah Samuel has left West Virginia, and is planning on transferring. I am doubtful another power 5 team would pick her up.

A tired and inaccurate statement. Yet popular here on Benny’s House.
