A lot of fans are very sensitive when someone brings up something that can even be remotely perceived as negative about "their" team/player(s)/coach. I understand it but it doesn't usually add to the conversation when you're trying to consider different factors/reasons why a team/player(s)/coach might be struggling or making certain decisions or whatever. IMO, your question is a fair one. Again, I for one don't think Gardiner is going to leave, mainly based on what her mom posted on Twitter...but I also haven't noticed any bad body language or anything from Gardiner. I'm pretty sure at this point that the majority of the team will be back. And while the program has regressed from a win-loss perspective, this team has stayed competitive pretty much the entire season and IMO is very close to jumping back into the top half of the Pac-12 next year if Rueck is able to make a couple of key additions. Making a comment like was made on the basis of one game is going to get a reaction. Brother, I referenced the fact that it was only one game and that probably not fair for me to make that conclusion! It was just a feeling I had. I acknowledged this! In most mature social conversations, when someone acknowledges that their observation may not be indicative of the norm they are given..."grace", I suppose, to state their opinion. But I've been on here enough to know that several people just love to get into arguments about opinions so, I suppose, I shouldn't be surprised that a negative reaction quickly surfaced. It's quite sociologically interesting, to say the least!

Last time we won back-to-back games was Dec 3rd. First time all season going back-to-back vs. Pac-12 teams. Honestly, give how many close losses this team has had, it feels like regression to the mean is well on our side now.

Portal talk is a good one.

Such a great win for this group, has been such a disappointing year for these young ladies and the coaching staff as well — just awesome to see the continued effort they play with and the big smiles following beating a very good USC team. Raegan was just flat out tough and determined, and really played so well; Blacklock has found her game at the end of the season, and being the outside threat this team needs to open things up a bit for our posts. AJ finally getting the playing time she needs to get comfortable and in the flow of the game — in my opinion, a real difference maker for this team as she has good speed and length defensively, and can bring the ball up the court to break the press, can drive on her defenders and pull up with her jump shot (and making some shots too sure helps). Looking forward to todays game with Colorado — think Timea will bounce back and have a great game, and hoping our guards all are shooting well from 3, and Bendu gets a few to fall 😎 — if so we will have a good chance at another tournament win! Go Beavs!! beavblvr,
Excellent post. Well organized and informative.
In so many games, the team has struggled with pressure from the defense causing all sorts of problems (turnovers being of course the major one). At the end of games often the lack of scoring was totally due to turning the ball over so often.
Question for the group. Why has A.J. often played so few minutes in games? It seem apparent that she has the athletic attributes (quickness, size, leaping ability, ball handling etc) that the team badly needs.
Thanks for your responses!
I think AJ has low minute games when 1) Talia is struggling and 2) we are playing post-centric offense. Both of these require her to be a corner spot-up shooter...which isn't her strength.

Excellent observation! Thank you.
A question for the group and for you. Should we not be playing our best (i..e. most talented overall) players as much as possible and altering "the SR system" if necessary to do that?

I think Rueck did that to a certain extent in the last few games of the season but I think his hand was forced to a degree by TVO getting sidelined. I really liked seeing Marotte's role change a bit and I really believe Rueck should take a serious look at her at point guard during the offseason. Blacklock was able to play more but that was most likely due to the absence of TVO. Mannen played far fewer minutes in the Pac-12 tourney, so Rueck is obviously not oblivious to his opponents' abilities but it does beg the question as to why she played so much in the regular season. Even though I'm not the biggest fan of "the SR system," I don't think that had a big role in his ongoing search for workable personnel combinations.

Mannen was in most of the 2nd half last night including the 4th qtr. when we needed buckets.

In conference play you win games by making runs. To make runs you need the unit on the floor to be in a collective flow state. This is the art side of coaching where data doesn't matter but reading the moment and putting the personnel on the floor that can manufacture a run does. This is not always your "best" players but the right players for the moment. The one commonality of runs is ball movement. This is why I tend to be short on TVO (at least relative to this board); when she is an offensive focal point the ball doesn't move. When the ball doesn't move the rest of the team isn't getting touches. If you're not getting touches you don't get into rhythm. A unit standing around watching someone dribble can't manufacture runs.
