Mentioning Corvallis…… I am over here today visiting my mom in assisted living. Stopped by 5th street Growlers to throw an RPM BACK, and I am the ONLY SOUL HERE. I don’t think that’s ever happened before. Beaver stuff EVERYWHERE. STILL. Everything ok? Nobody (but me) has a beer at 2:20pm anymore? “No drink January” to blame? Hey……I’m NOT opposed to drinking alone. I’ve just NEVER SEEN the place deserted. Couple folks came in for a sammich….. Nothing else. Well, school is not back in until next week, so there are still a lot of people on vacation. Downtown is a bit deserted. Good point. It’s “deserted,” and STILL busy. |

P.S. The Lovely Rita Meter Maid greeted me with a $15.00 ticket for being 2 minutes TOO LATE in feeding her trough. Literally TWO MINUTES. I had my beer, used the facilities, and came out with the greeting on my wipers. Lovely. 27 minutes (?) just isn’t enough time I guess, or ALL the change in my ashtray wasn’t enough. WTF.

Is it pretty normal on a project like this to only get two bids, with one being 20+% higher than the other? |

Is it pretty normal on a project like this to only get two bids, with one being 20+% higher than the other? The guys from Pennsylvania had to add in a bunch of travel time and cost. |

There are usually less bids on projects over $25-30 Mil, but I would have expected 3-4 on this. I think there was another large bridge job bidding the same day in Spokane that drew more interest. This was a tough job. A lot of work in a very small area. Lots of constraints. Different ways to look at it with a work bridge and other ideas. But like I said, they’re a good company. I would expect them to do a good job. |
