As someone mentioned yesterday - I can't wait to see a bunch of HUGE high dollar flops. I'd feel bad for the kids - but hey.....reap it.

The "investors" are college football boosters. Not a particularly rational group, especially in the South. They now have no restraints, except their own good judgement, so I don't expect the situation to change. The inmates are running the asylum.

Interesting idea but it would start with having to report what each player makes...
And the entire NIL thing started with the idea that kids name and images were being used in video games to make millions... and they deserved a slice of the pie. So, on the foundation it might be hard to limit the slice of the pie.
Now granted this has just turned into pay to play, not make a name for yourself at a college and then get paid a percentage of actual earnings linked to your game, jersey, etc...
But back to your question... we would need an NCAA rule capping income and then some honest reporting from teams on said incomes... and it seems like the next way to cheat... just give them more money than is being reported.
Don't get me wrong... this run away train needs something to pump the brakes.

Aren't these NIL deals basically "endorsement" deals?
Not even the NFL can limit how much endorsement money players make.
I'm not sure how the NFL limits "shady" deals by owners that could have their outside companies pay players more, but I assume something is in place.
For NCAA football, it seems to be a free-for-all.
Heck, perhaps this NIL thing will cause the NCAA to become the premiere football league in the US because they will be able to pay players more than the NFL?
