I dunno I'm pretty surprised.....I mean I knew there was most likely more than a concussion going on but I did not expect him to transfer. If anything, I figured he'd be confident he could win back the starting job cuz BG did nothing to secure it, and in fact I'm mostly surprised that Gebbia didn't see the field. I think at one point I'd heard or read somewhere that Gebbia had a pretty darned serius hamstring injury, like tendon detached from bone type injury. I could be mixing him up with another athlete somewhere. Those type of surgeries they basically staple tendon to bone and hope they hold, it's not a fast recovery process. If that's the type he had I'm kinda amazed he got back on the field. Here ya go doc.... www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6591667/To summarize, return to sport at pre-injury level was around 6 months in this study.....I realize maybe his could've not healed properly or something, but he was on the depth chart, suited up, and got mop up duty......I think he was good to go.

Not too hard to figure out that it was something else besides concussion protocol. - coaching staff would never give a clear explanation - concussion protocol never last 5 weeks - Chance requested not to play me so he would not lose a year of eligibility - Chance figured out that he was not going to be first string in the fall From Beaumont: Remember: Concussion affects people differently. While most people with a concussion recover quickly and fully, some will have symptoms that last for days or even weeks. A more serious concussion can last for months or longer. Do not compare your concussion symptoms and recovery to that of someone else or even to any previous concussions you may have sustained.

IMO, a pretty stupid and impulsive decision by Nolan. What decent team is going to offer a roster slot to a turnover plagued QB with a confirmed case of the yips? If'd he'd acted a bit less petulantly, he'd have realized that he stood a far better shot at regaining the starter slot here at OSU next fall. I mean what did Gulbranson do last Saturday?? Complete a TOTAL of six passes??!!! Give me a break..... Ever since Sasha Goforth’s WBB transfer I’ve made a point to keep from dogging anyone transferring out. So I definitely won’t be calling anyone stupid, impulsive or petulant before the details come out. You do you though. I'm not in favor of "dogging anyone transferring out" but Sasha's story is without much of a doubt an outlier. Most players transfer for reasons that are more directly related to their chosen sport -- such as playing time, not getting along with a coach or coaches, not feeling like a good fit on the team in general -- or the school itself. The main problem is that fans love their teams and can't fathom why a player would want to leave, so it angers and frustrates them

I am phenomenally happy that Smith has taken us to heights not seen since Riley was last here, but I must say that I am puzzled with the lack of effectiveness of the passing game by this time in Smith's tenure here. Luton did well and there have been signs of decency while the other three have played mixed in with really poor play. The passing game has flat out disappeared in too many games over the last two seasons.
In each of the last two seasons, there have been two games in which OSU passed for <100 yards. That is awful. And this year we had two four-interception games...which were not part of the two games of <100 passing yards. That's four games in which the passing game hasn't even been mediocre and OSU's three losses came in three of them (no surprise). Iron that out and OSU had a real shot at the Pac 12 championship game.
Better receivers, better blocking, better QB play or some combination of the three need to happen. The passing game has to be fixed, and soon. I think we all expected that it would be a strength of Smith's teams. And if it is fixed...wow, the sky could be the limit. Smith obviously learned a lot from Petersen and the student may outstrip the master at some point, even some point soon.

Good luck, Chance! Thanks for giving it your all. 2) In the words of Senator Palpatine, I will watch Chance's career with great interest. The only successful QB we've had under Smith is Luton, and that was as a senior after he gained a ton of experience before Smith arrived. No other QB has developed particularly well. I consider Smith to have rock-solid credentials here after coaching Jake Browning at UW, not to mention some of the QB's at Boise State, but I wonder about Lindgren. If Chance goes elsewhere and lights it up, I think we need to take a serious look at the QB development (or lack thereof) under Lindgren. It's now the only really glaring weakness in this program, even 5 years in. With that said, if I had to guess, I'd say that he'll probably end up in a non-P5 conference. I wouldn't say Luton had gained a ton of experience before Smith arrived unless you're talking about JC. Under GAG he only played in four games. One thing Luton had going for him that no one else has, under Jonathan, was Isaiah Hodgins to throw to. For me, the problem isn't development so much as recruiting the position. IMO the position has been both badly recruited and under recruited: 2018 Colletto/Dukart. Colletto switched positions. Dukart switched sports. Both had been GAG staff recruits I believe. Another of GAG's commits decommited and went to Purdue. Total loss for position depth. 2019 Gebbia. Functionally an injury loss. Probably should have been a second schollie QB that year, given what had happened with the previous class QBs. 2020 Nolan/Gulbranson. Two starters, not great but solid class. Transfer loss. 2021 Vidlak/Noyer. Vidlak was from a small school, probably should have been a walk on. Transfer loss. Noyer a one and done disappointment. Total loss for position depth. 2022 Throckmorton. Redshirted, still in program. Probably should have been more than one scholarship QB the way things had gone. Throckmorton aside (whom we haven't seen yet) do you see anyone on that list with Luton's natural talent? I don't. This is not to let Lindgren off the hook. Recruiting the position is probably his responsibility more than anyone else's. IMO a transfer QB is now essential to go along with Chiles, both to compete with Gulbranson and for position depth.

Smith was very fortunate to have Luton still around to play QB. Luton has elite level arm talent and no doubt would have benefitted to a high degree if he had been able to play a few years under Smith. Gebbia might have been a solid guy if not for the injury. Nolan was good last season. The idea that the QB group is going to go three-deep with starting level talent is nonsense. It's good if you have two guys you can rely on and another couple that you hope will develop. As far as the receivers, Gould and Bolden are a good start in building the WR group. They have several guys who have gotten on the field but not really to catch passes. So maybe one or two move up in the depth chart. There's a few freshmen coming in and it would help if at least one is ready to play and maybe even turn out to be an impact guy.

I think the pass blocking has been pretty good. Our O line is the heart and soul of this team! I think all of Beaver Nation is puzzled by the lack of excellence in the passing game, given our HC. That said, I have nothing but confidence in Smith to figure it out.....Lindgren is the QB coach, and Hynson is the WR/passing game coordinator.....they will surely be graded on their performance for the season. The grade should be less than ideal.....I'm not gonna say it's all on the coaches, but when things don't go as planned, someone has to take responsibility.....dump Tibs, promote Bray..... 🤔

My memory is fuzzy on this, but didn’t we have a guy who had to medically retire with us, he then transferred to a different team and was allowed to play? I think it was toward the end of the Riley years. Chance could be doing something like that. Thomas Tyner -- but he played for the doinks first and later came to play for us

BG's ceiling is higher. If it's a close call now, BG is going to be way ahead by the end of Fall Camp 2023. CN's skills would flourish in a different system or at a different level of competition. They do not translate against USC and Utah. The safeties are able to creep up too close to the line.

Nolan played in five games. He won't get an automatic redshirt. He can apply for a medical hardship and possibly get another year. But it is certainly not guaranteed.
There is no standard length for concussion protocol. It takes as long as it takes. All players are tested before the season. If he doesn't meet his preseason marks, he's not getting cleared to play.
As I said, his concussion was severe.
