I was at the game and could hear scott directing the offense on every play. He needs to get a grip and loosen the reins and let these women play basketball. He has them wound so tight that they might make a mistake. His offense is no longer working and it hasn’t been for a few seasons. We are very easy to scout against. Every single team plays us the exact same way. Aggressively and in our face. And for at least 2 plus seasons we haven’t had an answer for it. In mind that’s bad coaching! Learn to adjust and try something new.

Our offense only seems to work (historically) when we shoot the 3 well, which we did for many years. This team is simply terrible at it - 10.0% against Seattle, 14.3% against Eastern Washington, and 10.5% against Duke.

First Beaver basketball game I have seen (men's or women's) this season from start to finish....and wow, was that awful. Has Mit learned anything about how to play the post in her 2 years at OSU? Also, (besides the lack of post skills) the commentator on ESPN2 pretty much said Mit lacks upper, middle, and lower body strength. Well, that just about covers most of her muscles. I guess muscle tone is not Mit's thing either. I get it. Muscles are too masculine. As for the team in general, apparently driving to the basket, beating the defender off the dribble, maintaining ball control, and finishing strong is not a Beaver thing (with TVO sometimes being an exception). Understandable. Who needs improved ball handling skills, quickness, and touch when the guards and forwards can pass the ball proficiently and find the open three point shooter? (oh wait, it's getting late. I may be imagining things).

I attended. It was the worse performance I’ve seen from a Beaver WBB team and I’ve been watching since before Scott took over. It’s like they hadn’t really be taught an offense… and our defense was really not that great; Duke should be embarrassed that we stayed as close as we did. This team is really just starting from scratch and has a long way to go before it can even be as good as last year’s team. I do think the team started out the game with no energy based upon what I saw in warmups. I saw no enthusiasm and they played sleepy. Hopefully this game was rock-bottom, because I can’t imagine them being much worse. I dread seeing us play the Ducks next month. I’ll continue supporting them and trust that Scott will turn them into a more respectable team, but it will definitely take a while. We need Donovan Hunter and Kennedie Schuyler now; having 5’-4” and 5’-5” guards playing that much of a game won’t work in the PAC-12.

Wow, I didn't realize what a no good, very bad, horrible team they were until I came here.
On the Beav defense Duke shot slightly better against OSU than they did against UConn from the 2 at 39% vs 38% , and worse from the 3 at 20% vs 25%. Sooo, does that make UConn a terrible defensive team also? Only four players back from last year and they are already this good? I'll take it.
Problems that I saw-
Coach didn't do substitutions in the Iowa game and these guys aren't in good enough shape to play another game two days later. They were gassed out in the fourth quarter. Making dumb passes, missing wide open layups.
Passing in general has taken a downturn lately. Too much standing around, although that did change later in the game. I think I remember coach calling a time out around that time so maybe he gave them a talking to.
They need a 4 playing at the 4. Right now they have Beers, who has never played the 4 before in her life, and various guards. Maybe Timea will be a bust, but they really need someone her size helping on interior defense and getting rebounds. Duke got 13 offensive rebounds and the Beav's can't beat good teams with that happening.
I wasn't hugely encouraged by this game but Duke is a decent team and our offense isn't there yet. It will be fun seeing how the team develops if Timea starts playing.

When Timea finally gets on the court it should help. I also think that Yeaney is struggling at times to run the offense effectively, maybe that's a factor as well. But coach not subbing was his decision. And the offense was not really working from the get-go, though I guess tired players would definitely hinder any chance of it getting on track. I don't really see the problem with Beers at the 4 like you do. I think there are much more glaring problems. The players should not be struggling this much to run this offense and that is directly on Rueck. But it is too early to make sweeping judgements...so everyone's just got to hope things start to fall in place.

I was also at the game. Plain bad basketball. Our shooting percentage was terrible because we appeared clueless as to how to create good looks. If there was a hustle board in the arena, we would have been scorched on that worse than the scoreboard.

If Duke is the Stanford of the East Coast, what does that make Harvard and Yale? finishing schools

I think the defense was the high point for the team (someone mentioned this already), but Duke's defense was a lot better, keeping us from and contesting nearly every shot. I'd say the team has a fair chance of putting things together still.

I went to the game. I think we would have had a better offensive performance if the coaches left the court and said play "pick up ball". At this point we need to get more minutes for Raegan, Lily, and Adlee. I can live with a young team, but please play them. Adlee didn't see the court Friday, and when I left the game with 3 minutes Adlee had not yet seen the floor. I thought Martha played OK, but Martha played wing and not the point? Play Martha at the point please. When I got home after leaving in the middle of Q4, I watched the remainder of the game. I was impressed with Martha. Martha made some nice cross court passes, and generally played well. That is my highlight for the game. Martha is aggressive and really like her court vision and ball handling. I want to see Martha play the point, and have TvO & Bendu on the wing. Martha is the only true PG we have. After watching UCONN's two games, a real PG is a must to succeed. Can't run an offense without a decent PG on the floor.

Rueck mentioned in the O-Live article that the 3 former OSU players that are now part of the Duke program probably know the offense better than anybody on the current roster. I am sure Aleah was a big part of the scout for this game and was pretty active coaching during the game. She definitely knows the offense and what Rueck likes to do. They were clearly focused on limiting Talia as much as possible.
With that said, the game was totally winnable. All we had to do was make some shots. The shooting was terrible. Combine that with the turnovers and it’s a loss every time. Reagan is a monster. She’s going to do big things very soon for this team. The future is bright when combined with the others on the roster.
