I'm not thrilled with the marketing and media efforts thus far this season.
1- pregame hype video is VERY lacking. The video aspect is good but the music is not motivational at all. The crowd is not participating at all to get hyped. This needs to change.
2- pregame social media posts are not actionable. They tell us there is a game and maybe the time. They used to have posts with clickable links to watch/listen/stats etc. This should be done better.
3- Official game announcement social media post with the cartoon filter on a photo of a player is not attractive or helpful. Just post the actual picture.
4- video clips as the game is going on Twitter is ok, could have more.
Post game press conference seems to be going better with reporters actually asking their questions using a microphone.
I plan on sending my observations to: Olivia Murphy olivia.murphy@oregonstate.edu
Eric Ely eric.ely@oregonstate.edu
Sara Elcano sara.elcano@oregonstate.edu
Our team deserves better...GO BEAVS!

Both the men and women's intro videos are terrible - they feel like they were made by a committee. They both use a over-popular song which starts slow and builds to a predictable and limp payoff. The creators took no risks and the results are boring.
Agree with the rest as well. Photoshop filters are to graphic design what Powerpoint is to presentations. Useful tools, but no substitute for creativity and design sense.

It’s one thing to play some oldies, but the songs they play at the games haven’t been popular since 2010. How hard is it to play something a little more current?!
I’ve also had my reservations about the marketing strategies put forth. IMO, it’s not the type that’s going to make recruits more interested in the program.

I'll address just one thing, the opening video. I go to every game, so I see tons of people coming and going. The average age is at least 70, perhaps older. They are simply not going to get fired up by that thing they play. I notice more and more just sitting through it.

On the positive side, I hear they’ve reinstituted the postgame “8 minute mingle” with fans this season.

In previous years, the video would show some brief highlights of recent successes, like ending Tennessee's 58 game NCAA tournament winning streak on their home court. Stuff like that always got the faithful stirred up. Unfortunately, there hasn't been anything like that the last year or two.

Thanks Sewingbeaver, good observations, we need an advocate ! and we should give you credit for pushing to improve the sound, being able to hear the media (more or less) at the press conferences

I agree about the music in the pregame video. It needs a strong downbeat and pulse to get the fans clapping and to their feet! Maybe they could consult an alumnus who had been teaching music for 28 years! I might be able to suggest someone!

Here's a swinging' tune that the WBB fan demographic could get down to

The theme of the video is probably not what we're looking for, but the strong drive and pulse of the music is definitely clear and easy to clap to for our "clap impaired" crowd!

WBB needs a dedicated students' seating section to enliven the crowd. Gently boot the 'Bounders and boomers (I am the latter) from their legacy seating over the next few years, or relocate end zone season ticket holders by next season.
MBB, no matter how downtrodden last year, drew 1K plus students for every game. Noisy, involved, partying, young.
Reser's student throngs this year have rivaled any student involvement in OSU athletics ever, I believe ('cept for MBB '80ish). WBB could equal that enthusiam. Gill will rock.

I've been frustrated by the lack of student turnout as well, but you can't just "build it and they will come." We need to be ranked in the top 25 and on live TV. Turn a camera on a section of students and they become quite "engaged" in their environment. Our home Civil War win in 2019 was just about the best basketball game and crowd I have ever seen at Gill. Still have it DVR'd and watch it when I need a little pick-me-up.
