I wonder how much the NIL deal was worth to her.

I wonder how much the NIL deal was worth to her. A lot. No question about it. I know she’s a local kid, but the only way she chooses USC over Stanford and South Carolina is NIL money.

USC is right near home, and she's always dreamed of playing in the Big 10.

Speaking of recruiting, this is going to be a very interesting year watching who wins the Pac-12 Freshman of the week award. Grace VanSlooten came away the winner in week one. By my count there are 45 freshmen on Pac-12 rosters, 23 of them were ranked in Hoopgurlz top 100, 17 in the top 50, 12 in the top 25, and 7 in the top 10. One more ranked player will be added in January, as 2023 #42 Sammie Wagner will be leaving HS early and joining the Ducks in January.

Watkins is an elite talent. Really good athlete, highly skilled, elite shot creator, but I'm not totally surprised she chose USC. She strikes me as someone who would want to be the alpha. She'll have the ball in her hands day one there. Don't think that would happen at South Carolina or Stanford. There's some good talent in CA in the 24/25 classes so it'll be interesting to see who she helps recruit. Also interested to see how much Gottlieb can win with her.
While everyone would obviously like to see OSU on the list, I think we got two kids who are good fits, fill a need for the program, and are maybe better than their rankings suggest. Would be nice to land 2-3 top-50 caliber recruits in 2024.
