I think we all got a bit spoiled have the 4 best 3 point shooters of all time on the roster over-lapping each other. Probably not going to have a stretch of Aleah, Jamie, Kat, Syd again for a while. Especially that the 3 point line has now moved back a little bit. We were a national power in 3 point shooting for several years. Our national rank in 3 point percentage: 2013 - 14 13 2014 - 15 13 2015 - 16 27 2016 - 17 27 2017 - 18 1 2018 - 19 3 2019 - 20 14 I believe we were ranked No. 2 in 20-21 as well. Mostly thanks to Aleah. We really need Talia, Shalexxus, Lily, and Adlee to consistently knock down threes.

You'll have to give this team some time, and it may even be next year, but they should become a good 3pt shooting team. They brought in Blacklock, Langsford, and Aaron who are historically (although 2 from HS) well above average 3pt shooters. Add Timea and Raegan who are decent for forwards, and Talia, who can shoot from anywhere and you have some good shooters. Maybe we will see the full display this year, but I would expect glimpses, with next year being much better.
Certainly tonight's shooting was not good.

Waiting for Adlee to break out too, I know she can shoot. Several freshman parents in town including her dad: Being Adlee's dad looks like fun.

I really liked our defense in the fourth quarter. I was impressed by how Martha stepped over to block driving lanes. It stopped several guards in their tracks. Also Talia was really driving hard to the basket through a lot of contact. Three point shooting aside, I liked what I saw today much more than the previous two games.

We go 2/20 and still find a way to put a lot of points on the scoreboard, something that was lacking in the past. I can remember a couple games where Syd went 0/10 and we couldn't overcome it.
They were actually good looks that just didn't fall, it wasn't like we were forcing up shots.

Reagan Beers is scary good, has all the tools and the eye of the tiger, barring any injuries she could be a great one for the Beavs.

Not sure what happened with recruiting but used to have multiple players that could hit the three. For years, the Beavs were among the best 3 point shooting teams in the nation. My memory might be playing tricks on me, but I think the year Tudor got hurt early in the season that started to change, and they've never really gotten back to how they used to be. OSU was really good at the three ball Goodman's senior year. Struggled defensively that year IIRC, but Goodman shot it ridiculously well and Corosdale and Mack were solid too. Talia was also really good when she came. Last year was really bad though. It's hard to win games playing at a slower pace if you can't hit the three ball. Hansford and Blacklock were recruited to hit threes and they'll need to do that this year. Shalexxus was also a really good shooter at USC. We'll get blown out by top-25 teams if we can't make threes.

Reagan Beers is scary good, has all the tools and the eye of the tiger, barring any injuries she could be a great one for the Beavs. I’d take her over Taylor Jones any day. She’s got quick, confident moves and can finish. I thought Blacklock just shot the ball way too fast. It’s good to have a quick release, but it just seemed like that was over-the-top.

Was at the game, and I actually came away more encouraged than several posters here. Mitro presents a mis-match against most teams on our schedule, and she is rapidly getting back to keeping the ball high to the same degree she did last year. She is also starting to swat at balls more. A concern this game was her fumbling several entry passes, but honestly many of those entry passes were not great ones. SR seemed to experiment a bit this game with different entry passers (even playing a bunch of "twin towers" with Beers and her playing high/low). A concern is our PGs (Martha and Mannen) are of short stature, but that's where maybe Bendu changes things. Beers is very polished for having played all of 2 collegiate level games, and she really knows how to use her size to her advantage. Will be fun to watch her develop. An interesting analogy I overheard was "imagine the Canadian Hammer coming in as a frosh but with her junior year skillset". I don't think Beers is quite that, but I think she has a very high ceiling. I really like what AJ appears to have worked on all summer - dribbling to the open midrange basket area and elevating into a shot. With her quickness and height, she can make a lot of hay with that approach. It is also the staple of BLOBs that work thus far in the nascent season. We have also seen several players in the past eschew that midrange jumper in favor of "dribble into trouble", so I really enjoy her doing this. Blacklock seems to be tuning up to the speed of the game, and more importantly, she is bringing a ton of intensity to the floor. We need that energy! TVO seems to have two modes down the floor, the one where she passes off and the one where she puts her head down and gets all the way to the basket. I would like to see a more tasteful combination since what is working against Seattle U (for example, a nice 1 on 3 basket) will have less success on teams in the coming months. But otherwise she is rounding into form. I still like Lily's game a lot, but she was cold from long range. Freshmen, I tell you.... I wondering if Aaron is coming back from injury? She seems a step slow, and don't recall many 3 pt attempts from someone who has seen success from beyond the arc. I wonder as opponents become more challenging what the PT distribution between Martha and Mannen will be. Good news: TVO has help, and Mannen isn't the only answer. I suspect we see Martha get more minutes. The team we are putting on the floor isn't yet a top-3 or 4 in the Pac-12 quality team, but the potential seems to be there..... The biggest weaknesses are: PG position, defensive intensity / defensive rebounding (seems to have found it late this game, let's see how the team starts the game next week), FT shooting, 3 pt shooting, and entry passing. I miss Taya's entry passing skills. Other fascinating item I noticed - SR is either not controlling every play run, can convey the play he wants run very quickly, or has a fairly small playbook. Whatever it is, I have yet to see the long drawn out conversations between PGs and SR as they bring the ball up, which is interesting to me given our recent PGs like Goodman were like a "coach on the floor" and yet had those long conversations. I also don't see the offensive rigor that some of his prior teams had, but maybe that is based on the opponents we have faced thus far. Or maybe I am all wrong :-).
I am encouraged because the weaknesses are either correctable, are trending in a positive direction, or are ones that we have to live with or have lived with for a while yet. I don't think we will threaten for the Pac-12 championship with the team we are currently putting on the floor, but some pieces we haven't seen yet might still see the floor, and there are several players that are just scratching the surface of their potential, and watching them grow will be fun, and I suspect we will see this team in March Madness bracketology once again. Go Beavers!

Was this posted already, too lazy to look carefully, it seems like she is still hyped from the game, impressive at interviews, gives credit to Timea and Bendu on the bench, etc. great team mate all around.

Go Beavers! I wonder if it’s because this team seems like it has more players that can go get a good shot off on their own more than any I can remember at OSU, particularly when Gardiner is added. TvO with her strength and AJ with the height of her pull-up release can create their own opportunities when needed. Beers looks like she can get there, and Gardiner has done that her whole HS career. Jelena always seems to command a double team when she gets the ball in deep. So I’m wondering if we might see more free-form offense where we allow players to force the defense with their individual skills. If some players are able to require double-teaming to slow them down, the offense become more of those players forcing the action and then swinging the ball to where the help comes from. Or it could just be that they don’t know enough sets yet, but I do think the type of players in the roster does allow for more offensive systems the depend on players forcing and reading defensive action that what we’ve historically seen. I also think that’s why we are seeing a lot fewer TOs, even with a very young team; the defense can’t key on expected offensive sequences.

Go Beavers! Well put. This team has the potential to be really fun to watch. While Rueck does have the tendency to micromanage the game he didn't do it nearly as much with Aleah as with others. He was asked about his play calling when it was so different between Aleah and Destiny, his response was basically that while he does talk with Aleah at times and he would call plays when it was crucial, he often just let Aleah call the plays. The next question was why and he quipped that she would just change them anyway. Syd was the one that drove me nuts, she would turn the ball over once or twice a game looking at Rueck and not paying attention to her defender.

2ndGen stole my thunder, but a few other thoughts-
The rebounding was equal until Rueck put Mit and Beers into the game together. This gives us a look at what the team would be like if/when Gardiner can play. And that look is waaaay better.
Blacklock was the aggressive player she was in high school! She got lost occasionally on defense but she was moving around trying to figure it out instead of standing in one place looking confused.
Yes the perimeter defense has been poor that last couple of years, but there have been two frosh being a large part of that defense both of those years. But each year that defense has gotten much better by the time the pac12 part of the season arrived. And I think it will again this year.
