For OSU WBB to exceed BEAVERNATION's expectations, I think we need an "unexpected" "surprise" season performance from one of our freshman guard/wings. Not that we don't have expectations for our two freshmen BIGs. The one thing we have missed the past couple of years is the post up 3 point shooter like Kat Tudor. It opens up the paint and gives the point a pressure relief option. I vote for Adlee Blacklock.

Her shooting motion, the way she sets up, reminds me so much of Syd Weise.

My pick for the "Kolbie Leap" player this year is AJ. Players going from their freshman to sophomore years often improve greatly and AJ already has the athleticism in place and had shown some streaky good shooting last year....so with her knowing the system now and a years worth of weight training under her belt and hopefully a summer of working on her shooting I'm thinking/hoping she will have a breakout year!

One thing about how Rueck runs his half court offense. Is if he intends to run petrovic as post he seems to defeat the purpose in games at the end of last season. He had her play away from the basket like a three or two to much. If you recall a lot of the movement in this offense has the post come up to the top side of the key to screen the ball defender off the guard with the ball. if post doesn’t go back down to the block rolling down for a give and go, Jalena is stuck up top and way far from the block. Not really apart of the post job that needs take passes down low so she can score. Don’t we need her down low? Well watch some of the games re played in the last couple of days on pac 12. She is up top a lot way far from her ability to rebound or post up. I’m worried the added body up top messes with continuity. Isn’t the guards first look to start half court offense is to look down low for the high percentage shot first? It tires a big kid for one thing plus is not available to take block passes for easy shots. At her height being what we need her to get plenty of low post shots! Yes no?

I think the best player on this current team is far from settled. We'll see.

I think the best player on this current team is far from settled. We'll see. If the best player on this team is far from settled that's really good news, because as I see it we don't have anyone on this roster close to TVO right now. If we have some players performing as well as TVO we would be quite good.

I assume you mean a spot-up shooter (picks a spot and waits for the ball to be swung to her? If so, I totally agree it’s been a gap -we used Taya for that some historically, and she had a slump of a shooting year from distance. Not having that type of player (which Kat was great at) allowed the defense to shrink their coverage area. All 5 of the incoming freshman come in with good to very good 3pt shooting capabilities, so if that translates, we could quickly be back to watching an offense that gets more open shots and and makes a lot more of them.

And Kat is killing it overseas, doing the exact same thing. We need that back big time.

I really thought Greta was going to be a really good spot-up shooter for OSU, ideally with a slightly more versatile offensive game than Kat. She was good coming off and reading screens in high school and had a nice release and was generally pretty accurate. Unfortunately she really struggled to put the ball in the bucket last season.
I really hope Adlee or Lily can fill that role. Shalexxus was known as a very good shooter in her two years at USC, so hopefully she can knock down shots for us too. I think our subpar three point shooting (and shooting in general) was a major reason why we struggled so much last season.
