She's got a good looking floater game - that should translate well at the Pac-12 level.

Our recruiting class is one of the top 5-10 in the country for this fall. We have recruited players from all across the country in the past few years who were 4 and 5 star recruits. Why would anyone be shocked if we got her? Scott is a great recruiter. I would hope most on this board would consider Scott an outstanding recruiter. Because if you don't, you are wrong. He's proven that in my book. What he hasn't proven since the transfer portal began is his ability to keep his top talent 4 years, or his ability to land a huge difference maker in the portal. His inability to land difference makers last year resulted in the team's worst record in years. To date this season, he has landed Bendu and Shalexxus. I think they both could have great seasons for the Beavs. Yet, there has been a slew of high caliber talent in the portal this year, players that every team in the country would love to have, and to date the Beavs have not landed any of those considered top 25ish transfers. The hope of landing Shaylee is huge, because she would be a difference maker. A backcourt of Talia and Shaylee would be so much fun to watch. Oh, and I'm saying this as one of SR's biggest fans. I hear all this talk about how he needs to change this and how he needs to change that, and how the game is passing him by, blah, blah, and in my mind, he only needs to make minor adjustments when they are called for. I don't think he is losing it as a coach, but I do think he needs to realize where we are at with NIL, the transfer portal, etc. and make appropriate adjustments to how he is dealing with player personnel and what is going to make them happy in Corvallis.

The portal has only been going on for a couple years. I don't think that is a big enough sample size especially during the last few years of covid. The amount of players leaving teams and entering the portal nationwide is frightening. Osu hadn't lost any more or less than the rest of the conference. It has made coaches questioning the way they develop their roster. Coach Graves at uo has decided to keep a thin roster, just like Scott, because no matter how talented a roster is,he can't keep all the players happy, and attrition is guaranteed if the roster is too large. With all that being said,I'm glad Scott is a bit more selective in regards to the portal, knowing getting the wrong players can be worse than not having enough players. Having a cohesive team and good locker room is vital to winning. It just seems some on the board has soured on Scott and his ability to win at a high level. I believe in Scott and his plans.

Assuming that “The Ball Out” is a reliable source, we should be excited about the possibility of landing a talented guard like Shaylee Gonzales. Although her 3pt percentage is not impressive, she has great driving ability and ball handling skills, has a good assist to turnover ratio and is a serious scoring threat. She really fills all of our current needs and could be that PG we’ve all been waiting for. Landing her would instantly boost our chances at competing for a PAC-12 championship the next two years.
Not to mention, her and Talia seem to know each other. And as we all know, a current player-recruit connection is never a bad thing. Here’s to hoping Scott can bring this star player to Corvallis. Go beavs!!

Yeah, I heard someone discuss this very thing about the split in thinking you mentioned here. Adia Barnes @asu is taking the route of using the portal as much as possible and flushing the players out after each season. A constant churn or revolving door. The same podcaster mentioned how Scott and Graves have basically decided not to go full in the portal and go the more traditional high school recruit route. Once I heard that it makes sense why we have not seen Scott use the portal like we were expecting. Nice to know that now.
Gravy and Scott both feel that is the way to build a team more traditionally now. It was an about face in thinking for both, more so for the Gravy train now.

23% at the 3 isn't real heart warming, but her Asst's #'s and Ast/TO are both very good. Maybe the new PG? 23% last season, but 35% her freshman year and .333 career. I would expect decent numbers in the Beaver system.

Barnes is at Arizona, not Arizona St. That mistake alone just about makes the whole post moot.
But totally wrong about Graves as well. He lost a bunch of players after the 20-21 season and brought a bunch of players in via the portal...most of which departed after the 21-22 season. He's been seeing as much churn as Barnes. And you can't build via HS recruits when an entire recruiting class leaves, like his '20 group did. Well, 4 out of 5 anyway. So there's that.

I would expect decent numbers in the Beaver system. Looking further at her stats she is hitting over 50% from the 2. So her abilities seem to run more toward layups and midrange shots. If she can do this successfully in the Pac-12 it would open things up for Talia. And yes, she might shoot better from the 3 in a different offensive scheme.

I don't know you so your overall response is false.
I know your lazy at times. But how many players has brought each team brought in for the 2022 season? There was a change in direction. ..... duhhh
As the previous poster mentioned first they had a change in direction so you are saying that what they are doing from here on out is not true. Don't be so lazy in not looking up how many players were brought in for pac-12 teams the new season. There are two different directions of thinking for 2022 and beyond whether you want to acknowledge that or not. Qbeaver is correct...........
Qbeaver: "It has made coaches questioning the way they develop their roster. Coach Graves at uo ""has decided"" to keep a thin roster, just like Scott...."

You can say "Osu hadn't lost any more or less than the rest of the conference", and be accurate, yet misleading. Oregon State lost 4 starters in the portal this year. How many other Pac-12 teams lost 4 starters in the portal, or for that matter, how many across the nation lost that many starters? It's one thing to lose players who you don't think are going to develop into what you hoped they would be, or to lose players who want more playing time, but it hurts a bit more to lose players you were counting on as key players in the coming years. As a fan, it can be a little discouraging to see key players leave early for any reason, or to see assistant coaches leave, (even when they have good reason) that's why for me, it was super encouraging to see Coach Ely come back and to see Deven Hunter want to return as well. It's always good to know there are people that love the program enough that they want to return.

After 5 years in the program, her OSU account was settled - all dues paid - and she left on excellent terms and with Scott's full blessing. You really and truly expected her to come back for a 6th season??

Everyone needs to understand that bringing in another guard to a roster that already has 8 is asking for someone to transfer and/or red shirt.
So who should leave to make room for Gonzales?

I don't think anyone has to leave. You're going to have some of the "guards" playing the wing position and at times I'm sure that Regan will back up Jelena which could play into using a smaller line-up (guards playing a 3/4 position). When Taylor Kalmer transfered to SDSU...she made the 9th guard on the roster. No one left!
