I had a feeling this was happening when it was announced he was leaving his old job, and Jenny H started following him on twitter. I don't really know much about him except he seems to get rave reviews from those he's worked with.

With so many players and coaches leaving the last couple years, it's good to see someone want to return to the program!!

I wonder if this is a move to eventual can a bad hire . With the portal disaster and all? I wonder about that as well. I have no idea about the internal workings of the team - who does what, how they do it, and so on. I can only look at the final product on the floor, and that wasn't up to the standard last year. Then our 2 bigs, starters in every game when healthy, just up and leave. Can't help but think there might have been some problem with the 2 new assistants. Wonder also if Taylor, Kennedy, and even Taya, would have left if Eric had been here last year. Anyway, that's in the past. Very glad to have Eric back.

I've only dealt with Mr. Ely through a retirement home I help out at. He was great arranging seats for the retiree's so that they could get their wheelchairs and handicapped bodies in to see games at Gill.
But I have friends who know him personally and they talk about what a great guy he is and how he and his wife are always up for helping others.

He will serve as Director of Player Personnel/Assistant to the Head Coach. Not sure about who or if he is replacing anyone.

What's his role and/or who is he replacing? I was asking earlier because I thought there was a rule of how many coaches and support staff you could have associated with the team or did the NCAA do away with that rule too?

I was asking earlier because I thought there was a rule of how many coaches and support staff you could have associated with the team or did the NCAA do away with that rule too? I believe Kendall Knotz was assistant to the head coach and her position was never filled. I assume Eric will be much more involved on the basketball end of things than Kendall was.

I saw him downtown yesterday, yelled "Welcome back!" to him, and got a huge smile and a wave in return. Everybody knows the Skrimmer.

Since this is the "slow" time of the year, I will share a thought that crossed my mind when news of Coach Ely rejoining the Beavs broke. From the cheap seats, I would always notice how sincerely cordial the greetings for Ely were, both from Beavers and even from opposing coaches. And how much our players interacted with him during warm ups and on the bench.
Given that, I suspect Coach Ely is a "glue guy" - someone whose key contributions might not be contained in the job description. While there were a lot of changes to the team, I am hoping that some of the bench/chemistry mojo that seemed a bit wanting recently is rekindled thanks to us getting our "glue guy" back. Pandemic, portal and personnel changes might dash my hopes, but hope springs eternal, especially right as I renew our WBB season tix :-).
Go Beavers!
