A team loss.
Still, the relief pitching showed something positive. Between the four relief pitchers (none of them named Ferrer, Sebby or Brown), they pitched 6-1/3 with only 1 BB and 1 ER, against a very good hitting team.
Beavs gotta win 2 in a row using their normal Friday and Saturday starters...assuming Hjerpe can go.

Home plate umpire was ridiculous. He got better for a while but lost it again towards the end. First two strikes on Forrester in the 9th were totally bogus. But you can’t look at that last one.
I’d like to think a merit based system would keep him from continuing to ump in the tournament but we all know that’s not how the NCAA rolls.
Auburn was the better team tonight… by a hair… lots of Beavers seeing the ball well… plenty of just-missed balls off of our bats… their pitchers know we are going to hit them. This series is very winnable for the Beavs.
Go Beavs!

I think Auburn is actually in trouble. They didn’t adjust their pitchers to counter Hjerpe being out. We pitched the bottom of the post season bullpen except for Lattery. They didn’t have a clue how to deal with AJ and struggled against all our bottom bullpen.
Starting tomorrow it gets easier for our hitters and wasaayyyy harder for theirs. Hjerpe, Ferrer, Lattery, Sebby, Brown, Hunter, Kmatz and Boisvert all ready to go. Verburg could also pitch Sunday. Carpenter could too but I hope we don’t need that.
I don’t see Auburn blowing us out if they only got 7 against tonight’s pitching.

I still think we can win the next 2. Just need to come back and get tomorrow first. GO BEAVS!!! Elimination games are our bread and butter. If it were easy, it wouldn't be a Corvallis Super Regional. Oregon State is the only team that has ever won a Corvallis Super Regional. The Beavers burned up their ace in 2013 in a loss to a Land Grant University and came back to win the Corvallis Super Regional 12-4 and 4-3. Hopefully, Mitchy Slick can come up with a roadmap to do the same here. Throw Hjerpe or Kmatz tomorrow and the other on Monday. Nobody can match Oregon State arm-for-arm, if there is a decent HP umpire.

Watched and felt the botched double play and the walks cost us. Their 2 homers accounted for three runs. Percentage says we have 20?percent to advance having to win 2. Let’s come back Sunday first. They are good and confident. I watched the Stanford game from 13-6 to the end. 8 home runs and 6 runs in 9 th. They almost stole that game. I doubt U Con has the pitching to win again. Our relief pitching was ok. The umpire really got into both teams heads. Very frustrating.

I don’t see Stanford or the Beavs being a quick 2 games series. They are extremely resilient teams this year.

Hmmmm... seems the ump is making the same calls both ways from my seat. No one seems to complain when OSU bats OSU had a opportunity to plate 5,6,7,8 runs in the first. Ump? The excuses are so old... not getting those runs turned out to be critical....Lots of long/loud outs hurt too... rgeorge - is that a view from the cheap seats? I kidd as I’m in agreement with your statement. From my seats I think our pitching was mismanagement through the first three innings. That and a lack of hitting is what hurt. I’m optimistic for this next game as we kept the last game close and had our chances.

plenty of just-missed balls off of our bats… No kidding. Forrester had one in his 2nd AB he hits to dead center. 3 ft to either side and thats another HR.. OSU loved the warning track last night

Respectfully, Oregon State's game is location-heavy pitchers and working counts on offense. The more nebulous the zone, the dumber the baseball gets, the more it hurts Oregon State and the more it helps big-arm gorilla ball teams, like Auburn. That is exactly the same thing that I said after we got Streeted in 2017. That was more one-sided, but Street also had a garbage zone for LSU, as well. The thing I like about moving ahead in the Tournament is you are less and less likely to run into HP umpires with garbage zones. That helps Oregon State. But every time that Oregon State runs into an HP umpire with a garbage zone, it tends to be much more difficult for Oregon State to overcome, because it flattens out the hitting and pitching advantage that the Beavers usually enjoy.
